hi ladies so how you feeling about your
hair right now are you have to here with
it
are you speed-dialing your hairdresser
trying to set up a way for him or her to
maybe come by and help you out a little
bit I think everybody is in a state of
dismay and disarray when it comes to the
quaff and what's going on if you have
short hair like mine especially a pixie
cut it's growing in in all different
kinds of funky ways if you have bangs
they're probably now down to the bridge
of your nose hair probably needs a
little bit of a trim ends are frayed and
fried and so everybody is at that point
scratching their heads wondering what
I'm gonna do now if you have somebody in
your house who's actually a skilled
hairdresser you're lucky I have been
cutting my mom's hair and my bonus
daughter's hair because I have like a
basic skill set I'm by no means a
professional but I can get the job done
but it's not as easy doing it to
yourself so what I want to do is I'd
like to use this time to help you with
your hair so that you don't do anything
crazy so that you don't give yourself
bangs up to here or cut in some weird
layers and then you got to look at
yourself for maybe another month before
you can get to the hairdresser yes I'm
going to show you how to trim maybe just
a quarter of an inch off to get rid of
those split ends different types of
products to use different ways of now
styling your hair because it's growing
in and it's becoming a different look
and that doesn't mean that you're stuck
it just means now we have new options
and new things to consider so a video
that I just released is called at-home
Beauty and that can really help you out
if you're dealing with some Gray's that
are coming in they're quite a few
products that you can get at your local
drugstore to buy you time if you don't
want to do full on gray coverage or
don't feel that you really have the
skillset and don't want to mess that up
so there's some great little patchwork
ways to tackle that and that is really
what I'm gonna call this this is like
little patchwork tips and tricks to help
get us to that next hair appointment
whenever that may be if you are like me
and you have short hair short hair is
you know use
requires a good four to six-week trim in
order to keep the shape if you don't it
really grows out quick Pixies can become
mullets in a heartbeat so here's the
deal if you have a short pixie cut you
have two options right now with your
growing usually what a lot of people
will do with a pixie cut when they go to
their hairdresser and they want to get
more length into their hair they will
continue to cut the back keep the nape
of the neck really really really tight
and short while these layers start to
grow in and get some length it is a long
process the layers around the face take
a while to grow I know in my case these
guys grow a lot slower than these guys
so that can take a while and what it
will lead to is a lot of kind of tucking
hair behind the ears and and flattening
it out until you get some length in here
now in my case as my hair is growing in
the option that I'm using is to go for
more of a shag it will immediately
create a look of longer hair instantly
because the minute you have some length
that's starting to come in in the back
and you fluff that out it suddenly looks
like you went from having barely any
hair to now having a lot more hair so
it's a quick way to give your hair a
longer look a more full look but it
means that you're now styling
differently Pixies are a lot more flat a
lot more to the face a lot more tucked
this is now going to be a lot more
volume if you're somebody with longer
hair and bangs be really really careful
with cutting bangs it is so easy to mess
those up if you've cut your bangs before
and you feel like you've got a good
skill set there continue to do so some
bangs are easier than others those those
basic kind of straight across bangs are
a lot easier than the texturized
kind of fringe bangs if you feel that
your bangs are just getting long what I
would recommend that you do is just find
that bang layer and then you can take
your scissors and all you're going to do
is basically buzz off maybe a quarter of
an inch of what you see here just to
keep that hair healthy I
also have a couple of videos for you as
a resource on how to style side swept
bangs as well as curtain bangs so here
is now an option for you to maybe even
change your look there are lots of
little Clips and things that you can use
tiny little barrettes to be able to take
your bangs and then clip it up off your
face if you just don't want to deal with
bangs in your face anymore or some of
these you know really cute big barrettes
my hair is wet so it's kind of hard to
get the full-on
look but but you know what I'm saying
you've got you've got options to keep
hair out of your face so the next thing
is let's talk about the trim and the
trim is really going to be focused on
the areas where our hair gets the driest
and the most damaged and I bet you would
agree that that would be right here up
along the face the bangs the longest
layers and if you have some layers up
top right in here and that's just
because if heat styling that's what
makes those ends get super dry and the
minute you cut off and I'm telling you
even if it's just the tiniest amount
your hair will instantly look a lot
healthier and a lot more full so what
I'm gonna do is I'll push in a little
bit and I'm gonna go through and I'm
gonna show you with my scissors how I go
through my front layers and just trim
ever so slightly to help bridge the gap
between where I am now and hopefully
where I'll be in the salon in maybe four
to six weeks maybe fingers crossed
okay so here's my my shag that I've
growing into and when it comes to
trimming I will start with finding my
part where my hair falls as I'm choosing
to wear it now and once I get that part
I will then take a look at these layers
around my face and and these are the
places where it gets just a little bit
dry and up in here and in these little
layers especially areas that have had
processing highlighting and all of that
super easy to be able to trim these you
never go like this what you want to do
section by section just take a comb that
can section off your hair and so I'm
just going to start on this side of my
part and I'm gonna go in find the first
little front section here and I'm going
to lift up and right in here is where
you can see the dryness so I'm just and
I'm literally I mean this is only a
quarter of an inch that I'm going in and
buzzing off that's it I mean you won't
even notice any length difference at all
again just going in and and you'll see I
mean some of these are super super dry
and uneven and I just start in the front
and make my way back right in here see
there a few of those that are a little
bit longer and they look thin they look
a little raggedy and just work my way
around
and again tiny tiny tiny amount all
you're doing here is just buy in time to
your hairdresser and I just I pull up on
the front on the sides I just pull it
out to the side and then microscopic
amounts I'm just cleaning up
same on this side again my my driest
hairs are right around the front it's
where my hair is the thinnest and it's
usually where you do most of your color
processing as well if you have any color
or highlights it's usually focused
around the face which is why those hairs
get so dry and so frazzled looking and
I'm really just focusing on this top
section I'm not going below I'm letting
length come in here on the sides and
here in the back same thing with the
back again just at an angle and you're
all you're looking for just those little
dry pieces okay and so now that we've
gone through and taking care of that the
next thing is inspiration what is going
to be your style inspo as you deal with
your ever-changing look so as my hair
grows in it gives me other opportunities
to style it to create different looks
and as I go from a pixie to a shag I
just decided to go online through either
Instagram or Pinterest look for some
shag inspired ideas and of course the
first person the queen of the shag lisa
rinna
and she's worn her hair in a shag
practically her entire career and it's
varied in length from a shorter shag to
a longer shag so I use that as my
inspiration in terms of how to style it
that will also determine the kind of
product that I want to use in my hair
now these are all by Helium hair care
I'm a big fan of this company they use
natural ingredients the products contain
sunscreen no harsh chemicals and made in
the good ol US of A so the first one is
called layer one dual-purpose pre and
post style body enhance thermal buffer
volume blowout you can use it for curls
for scrunching so it's just to give a
little bit extra pouf
you can take it in your hand and pull it
through you can spray it directly on
your hair from root to end I'm not I'm
not a huge product junkie I don't like
too much stuff in my hair especially
when it's short it it feels like it gets
dirty real real quick so I will really
temper
how much okay so that's in the hair the
next thing I'm also going to add is
another product by helium and this one
is called quick fix leave-in treatment
it fortifies the hair strengthens
moisturizes repairs and protects so this
is wonderful for again our ends but a
little bit goes a long way whoops is it
sprays everywhere even that is too much
let me tell off some of this like I said
I'm not a huge product junkie I just
like a little bit so now I'm not getting
this near my roots I'm just lifting and
I'm getting my my ends especially up
front product is in I can already see my
uh my curls starting to come in too
funny what happens when hair grows right
okay
next up is the blow dry so again like I
said I am going for the shag and I'm
going for a lot more volume than I used
to wear so I'm using a brush by its it's
by from and it's kind of a square round
brush and it's really really good at
getting some height and some volume and
I also have a smaller round brush for
the back just to be able to kick that
out a little bit you will notice that a
lot of the blow dry is just pushing it
and moving it in all different
directions
the other thing too instead of slick
slicking the back part down I'm now
kicking that up so I'm running the
blow-dryer underneath that to give some
lift
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
okay so hair is probably half to
three-quarters dry and now I'm going to
use the round brush to start to get
things in place what I do with the shag
and with the longer bang is and you will
see this if you go to my side-swept bang
tutorial I take my front hair and I
always start in front because this is
the most unruly I never saved that for
last and I collect my front pieces and I
go from underneath and I flip it back
[Music]
and that gives a little bit more of a
flip and a swoop upfront
next I'm going to focus on my part line
and I want to now get some height up
here I'm not wearing a flat hairstyle
anymore I'm going for lift so that lift
is going to be right here in the part
and in the root and coming forward
[Music]
everything is now going back as opposed
to straight and under
[Music]
here's a trick instead of flipping the
hair all the way out and leaving it like
that that's gonna make a big ol wing to
the side you can flip it but press it
really close to your face and then pull
it down and then just hold it and it's
gonna give it a slight Bend out as
opposed to just a massive wave
[Music]
so let's talk about the back of the hair
the back is going to be blown out in two
different sections this top part here is
going to go back this bottom part here
we're going to get to flip up so there's
going to be a point here where I'm going
to stop rolling under and I'm going to
start flipping up
[Music]
and now the little brush to kick up the
back ends
[Music]
and then just take it and shake it
okay and so - I mean isn't it amazing
how just a different way of blowing out
and styling your hair can make it seem
like it grew three inches overnight it's
kind of wild to wrap this up the product
that I'm going to use for styling it's a
product by helium and it's called fiber
flex multi-function styling spray and
finishing spray great for texturizing to
me it's like a combo of hairspray and
texturizer spray so I will take this
kind of tip my hair upside down and then
just spray little hits just everywhere
run my fingers through it bring it back
and now just piece it into place
and I will use the helium air spray
their hairspray as a final setting spray
and in this case I don't kind of spray
all over and leave it I will just take
my hands move it and then just get the
hair exactly where I want it do a little
bit of a lift in the back
your fingers are your best friend with a
look like this alright let me check the
perimeter make sure I did a decent job
in the back hold on why yes I did okay
there you go
take a look so there's the back as you
can see this top part goes back this is
now getting really PC and kind of kicked
out there's that side and now this side
and the hair looks healthier
those little split ends that I had right
here around my face are now gone I've
got some healthy products that
moisturize and have sunscreen to
continue to protect my hair and I feel
like I have bought myself yet another
month or six weeks until I can see my
hairdresser but I think I'm just gonna
continue on this trend of shagging it
and letting it grow and and and see
where it gets you know who knows it's
it's time for a change and and sometimes
things that happen in life can spur
about those changes my goodness I hope
