hi guys
welcome back or welcome to petit cavi
in today's video i'll show you how to
groom and trim the hair of your guinea
pig
so let's get started
[Music]
for a scissor cut you will need a small
box or container
towels or face cloth
a good pair of straight scissors
a pair of sculpture scissors it's
optional but i highly recommend
a brush for little animals
and a comb
begin by preparing your room to welcome
your guinea pig
the container is used to raise your
guinea pig to make the job easier
keep a towel under the guinea pig to lay
the coat on
and to make sure your guinea pig
comfortable and doesn't slip
[Music]
start by gently detangling its coat by
brushing your guinea pig
if you have a peruvian first use a comb
to make a separation in the middle of
his back
before you cut for a silky arcaronet
there is no separation to make since the
fur grows from the head and backwards
forming a kind of cape on its back
it is important to have a hand on your
guinea pig to have better control over
the cut and to secure your guinea pig

simply cut the hair that drags our
protrudes
[Music]
it is important not to cut the
vibrancies and small hairs around the
eyes
because these hairs allow guinea pigs to
navigate in the dark
[Music]

[Music]
for a natural look i suggest sculpting
scissors
[Music]
be careful not to snip your guinea pig's
paws with scissors

then repeat the same procedure on the
other side
it's always good to have a snack on hand
to keep your guinea pig busy
[Music]
for a beautiful healthy coat it is
necessary to brush the guinea pig
weekly maintenance is recommended for
short hair guinea pigs
but for those with long coats such as
silkies or peruvians a more regular
maintenance
of about three times a week is needed to
remove dead hair
and avoid nuts
[Music]
the scissor cut allows you to trim the
bottom of your guinea pig's coat so that
it's more comfortable in its movements
indeed when the hair drags on the ground
the guinea pig itself
or the other guinea pigs can trample on
its coat
cutting the length prevents the coat
from dragging and helps maintain
a guinea pig's good hygiene again a pig
with a coat that touches the ground is
like a mop
and it will pick up everything that
hangs in the cage
namely bits of hay feces dead hair
litter
and even cage others if it's poorly
maintained
a good hygiene also prevents urinary
infection from developing
i scissor cut puppy's coat as soon as it
drags on the ground every month
and it takes me about 20 minutes
it is a myth that shaving your guinea
pig in the summer will keep it cooler
the coat insulates as much from heat as
from cold
[Music]
i do a final check i like it when the
cut looks natural
you don't want to cut the hair on its
back because there will be no reason to
adopt a long-haired guinea pig anymore
and your guinea pig will likely have
this look for a while
[Music]
[Music]
it's already over thank you for watching
i hope this was helpful to you
and i'll see you guys next time bye
