if you're wearing long nails sometimes
you want to convert them to short nails
if you've got a client that's got long
nails and they walk in the door and they
want short nails well you've got to know
how to do that - we're gonna take you
through the steps of exactly how to do
this very quickly and efficiently right
now on nail school all right Tracy going
from long nails to short nails how do we
do this well there's there's two
different ways I'm going to show you
really quick I know we've showed before
how to snap it off if they want no link
at all but what happens sometimes if
you've done these beautiful long nails
on your customer they come in in two or
three weeks and they're like I want
active now and you're like I don't want
to hand file that I don't want to have
to be sculpt it so I'm gonna show you
the quickest way of doing it with your
electric file how to restructure the
upper arch you're good to go first then
I'm gonna show you on my extremely long
nails is okay they don't want any nail
at all so I'm going to just take my
toenail clippers I'm gonna grab it from
the side here and you can see I'm just
I'm not coming all the way in I'm using
the very edge of that clipper right on
the edge of that nail and I'm just going
straight across you want it a little
shorter you can come over here do the
same thing and now it's ready to file
and be removed but what if they want to
take this nail and now they want it as
an active length now now I don't want to
have to clip it and redo it so I'm gonna
take my electric file and I'm going to
show you the quickest way of shortening
with your electric file just save your
wrist and to save you time the first
thing I want to show you is we get a lot
of question about how fast the electric
file should be so I'm going to show you
what speed I'm gonna have it on for
shortening the length
now it's our tendency when working on an
enhancement to try to run our electric
file fairly low this would be a prep
speed but to take down links you're
gonna find that there's not enough
torque it actually can kind of feel
weird or have a little heat if you don't
increase the speed I always work when
I'm taking out an enhancement at half
speed this is the perfect speed and you
never go any faster than this another
thing I want to talk about is how to put
pressure on the nail bed so it doesn't
vibrate on the customer and feel weird
I'm working on myself but I still put
pressure I take my nail my thumbnail and
I'm putting pressure on my nail bed as I
bring the electric file in and I start
filing it's not gonna vibrate or feel
weird on my nail bed so we're gonna
start the process I have my safety bit
course on the electric file and I'm
gonna take my safety bit course again
I'm putting pressure on that nail bed
and I'm just going to take it and go in
and I'm just putting pressure on the
nail and bringing it straight across
pressure on the nail bring it straight
across keep doing this until you get
your desired length I'm gonna go a
little bit shorter
[Music]
see and we're just keeping it in motion
we put it to the nail put pressure and
bring it straight across so now that
we've shortened the nail we have to deal
with the fact that we have this excess
bulk at the tip of the nail because this
nail has been built for a lot of links
now that we've went shorter we have to
restructure the upper arch and the tip
so it's not thick so again I'm going to
turn my electric file on half speed I'm
using my safety bit course again and I'm
just gonna come through I'm gonna put it
to the nail and I'm gonna drag it
towards myself not a back and forth
motion that's the way we slip around the
nail so I'm gonna put it down bring it
towards myself so what I'm focusing on
is the thick tip part I'm not going all
the way back here I'm just focusing on
the very tips and spinning that out so
I'm just sending it out bringing the
tips of the nails down making it nice
and thin I'm gonna turn my now I'm gonna
look at that butter arch and if there's
anything that needs to be taken down
this is my time to do it
so at this point I've taken down the
links I've taken out the bulk of a
thickness now I'm ready to go ahead and
switch my bed out to my medium armor
band prep for my fill and we're good to
go
I've shortened the nail with my electric
file I've made sure the tip is not too
thick I've taken down the upper arch
where it means now we're ready to switch
our bed out to a medium Arbor band and
prep for our fill so make sure to click
on our link in the description below to
check out how to do a basic acrylic fill
so the process that I just showed you
you want to make sure you do this prior
to the fill you don't want to do a fill
and then have to take a bunch of lengths
down and then have to deal with a
thickness at the tip so there's always a
process the
this is to take down the length first
then go into your field this is the
easiest and fastest way to shorten a
nail so you can get your service done
quickly and make that money
