hey everybody I'm here today to show you
how to trim hedges now the process is
really really simple and I'm going to
walk you through it as I trim the hedges
at my house so the first step is to
actually trim the sides I mean you can
start with the top but I like to start
with the sides of the hedges and work my
way from the bottom up so I'm going to
take that hedge trimmer right there and
work my way from the bottom up now when
I'm holding the hedge trimmer I don't
hold it completely sideways and slice
the hedges like this because that leaves
a higher chance for error to occur
instead I just sort of put it at a 45
degree angle and I just work my way up
and smooth out the sides of the hedges
so that's what I'm going to do right now
across here
now that I have used the hedge trimmer
to smooth out the majority of the side
of the hedges I'm going to go ahead and
take a closer look and make any small
minor changes that I need to make so if
there is a small twig or small leaf
sticking out then I will go ahead and
trim it off with the hedge trimmer right
now all right so one more quick tip now
that I'm finished with the side of the
hedges one more quick tip is to just
pick a single spot on the hedges and use
that spot as your guide and then trim
off anything that exceeds past that spot
so that's how I got this to be really
straight and really smooth so usually at
this point in the process I would trim
the other side of the hedges on the
neighbor's driveway but just for the
purposes of this video the process is
the same so I'm just going to skip that
part right now and move on to the top
because you don't need to see the other
side of the hedges because the process
is literally identical to trimming this
side of the hedges so the next step is
to trim the top of the hedges and for
that I'm going to do the same thing but
I am NOT going to hold the hedge trimmer
at a 45 degree angle I'm going to hold
it completely completely parallel to the
ground so the blades will be completely
parallel to the ground and I'm going to
pick a spot on the top and use that spot
as a guide and anything that is higher
than the spot that I picked I will trim
off and once again I'm just going to do
a very rough job across and then I will
fine-tune and choose any small small
areas that I need to trim once I have
done the rough job so I'm going to go
ahead and work my way through the top
all right so as you saw when I was
trimming the top of the hedges the
method that I use is to simply hold the
hedge trimmer with the blades being
parallel to the ground and hold it at a
steady height and just move my body
along the hedges while holding the
blades of the hedge trimmer at a
consistent height and that allows me to
get a pretty smooth pretty smooth top
now there's a little bump over there but
that's I'm going to try and trim it a
little bit but that bump is within the
nature of the hedges they are pretty
uneven because the homeowners the
previous homeowners did not trim them
properly so they grew to be really
uneven but I'm going to try and smooth
it out a bit and now that I have done
the rough job I'm going to go back and
make any smaller minor adjustments and
and trim any small pieces that are
sticking up or pieces that are too high
so I'm going to go ahead and do that
right now
okay so now that I am finished with the
sides of all the side of the hedges and
the top of the hedges the next step is
to just make a nice smooth corner so I'm
just going to go along the corner and
hold the blades of the hedge trimmer at
an angle just like this and work my way
along the corner and that will give the
hedges a nice smooth and rounded corner
now this is optional if you like the way
that your hedges look like this with
sort of a sharp corner then you can
leave them as is but I would recommend
going over the corner at an angle like
this with the hedge trimmer because it
in my opinion it does look much better
so I'm going to go ahead and do that
right now and the method that I will be
using is the same method that I used
with the top of the hedges I will just
hold the hedge trimmer blades at a
consistent angle and height and just
move my body along the corner
now that the rough job has been done
along the corner I'm going to go ahead
and take the hedge trimmers and just
smooth out any imperfections that I
didn't that I didn't get to when I went
through it the first time and that's
basically it as you can see the hedges
look much better than they did before
and obviously just as I said earlier in
this video I still have to do the
neighbors side of the hedges but I'm
going to do that off camera because the
process is identical to doing this side
my side of the hedges and that's
basically how you trim your hedges the
process is really straightforward and
the key is to choose a single point as a
guideline and trim off anything that
goes beyond that single point and just
make any minor changes even once you
have finished trimming them if you
notice if you notice that there is a
leaf or twig sticking out then you can
make any minor adjustments and trim that
piece off and that's the entire process
all that I have to do now is clean it up
and that's all I have for you today
thanks for watching
