out our podcast it's called groomer
humor you'll find that all our social
media and recommended grooming tool
links in the description below so for
this week's video we are featuring the
lovely patty you may remember her from
her first video how to clip black nails
patty's nails here are very very
overgrown and this is really a groomer's
nemesis
part of the reason why this is so
difficult is we have to really locate
that vein to see how far back we can
clip these nails
so you can see how overgrown patty's
nails are in this video
identifying where the vein is on darker
nails is very very difficult there's
only one way to find out and that's to
start cutting
i'm basically cutting each nail and then
gonna go over them again to see if i can
clip them back a little further once i
get a feel of where that vein is
i'm working on patty's back nails and
again just trying to get a feel of where
the vein is i'm using my index finger on
my left hand as a guide
watch this video to the end because
we're going to feature how much easier
it is to cut a clear nail
as we've mentioned in other videos the
vein really grows out with the length of
the nail so the longer the nail you can
expect the vein to be closer to the end
of that nail so you really have to be
careful
right here is where the vein is
it looks like a vertical eyeball once
you see that dark center that is the
vein don't clip any further than that
even though it may seem like we're not
cutting enough off we're cutting as much
as we can off again see that dark center
that is the vein just looks like a
vertical eyeball it's darker in the
center that is the vein if you cut any
further than that you're definitely
gonna make your dog bleed
you may want to get your dog in at least
every two weeks to cut them back a
little bit further
here are the clear nails where the vein
is obviously visible so it's a lot less
stressful we know where the vein is and
even though the vein appears to be there
it actually extends a little bit further
than it appears i don't recommend that
you cut right up to the vein you should
really only be cutting a little bit
before that vein
again we're just cutting a little bit at
a time and working it back
that little dark center is the vein
here's the side view again the vein
extends a little bit further than it
actually appears
you can see that fleshy part right there
in the center of the nail that's the
vein
although we're not showing it in the
video guys we went ahead and we grinded
these nails down a little bit just to
get that sharp edge off but we really
just wanted to show you this video to
see the comparison between doing dark
nails and light nails the clear nails
are a little bit easier to locate the
vein as opposed to the dark nails but
again this is the way to do it just look
at the center
give it up for patty guys she's such a
trooper patty is about 16 years old
right now and she's just an angel of a
dog we love her so again guys just give
it up for patty for being such a good
good dog for us
