you probably have heard a lot of good
things about oats not only for their
heart health benefits but for also
weight loss and you're wondering how can
I eat oats
to lose weight I'm Charlotte a
registered and licensed dietitian here
in Tampa Bay Florida and the great thing
about oats is they pack a lot of fiber
now fiber is something our body doesn't
digest and it has a lot of health
benefits as far as reducing our risk for
chronic diseases and also helping to
lower some cholesterol now like because
like I said our body doesn't digest it
so it actually helps us to save fuller
for a longer period of time now when our
body's full we're less likely to choose
foods that are high in simple sugars and
easy excess calories plus because we're
feeling fuller longer
or maybe snacking less often and
actually in taking a more moderate
amount of calories so again now only is
it helping it with regular health
benefits as far as you're removing
cholesterol and preventing chronic
disease
we're also eating more moderate calories
now keep in mind
oats in general are considered a starchy
at a starch or grain and so a serving
size for oats is really only about 1/2
of a cup so don't go overboard on the
nuts but have a good moderate amount
maybe a 1 cup portion is too old to
serving sizes from the grain would be a
good breakfast starter or maybe even a
midnight meal excuse me an evening meal
versus choosing some more snack chips or
something or maybe you ran out of
options that have nothing else for
dinner oatmeal is an easy breakfast for
dinner type option so again moderate
your portion sizes just with anything
and also keep in mind fiber really is
probably the tool for the weight loss
and as with any weight loss program we
want our intake of calories to be less
than our exerted calories so also look
into a good moderate exercise program
I'm Charlotte and eat happy
