so everyone who enrolls in medicare
receives a red white and blue medicare
card and what this card does is it lists
your name and the dates that your
original medicare hospital insurance
otherwise known as part a
and your medical insurance otherwise
known as part b when those both began
it will also show your medicare number
which serves as an identification number
in the medicare system
now if you get medicare through the
railroad retirement board your card will
say
railroad retirement board at the bottom
so that's just something to be aware of
now if you have original medicare make
sure you always bring this card with you
when you visit doctors and hospitals so
that they can submit bills to medicare
for payment and then if you have a
supplemental insurance plan like medigap
retiree or union plan
make sure to show that the plans card
to your doctor or hospital too
so that they can build a plan for any of
your out-of-pocket costs now one thing
to note medicare has finished mailing
new medicare cards to all beneficiaries
go ahead and scratch that delete that
note about medicare finishing mailing
medicare cards we're not going to use
that now if you're enrolled in a
medicare part d plan which is a medicare
prescription drug benefit you will use
the part d plans card at the pharmacy
and then if you're enrolled in a
medicare advantage plan like in hmo ppo
or pffs
you will not use the red white and blue
card when you go to the doctor hospital
instead you will use your medicare
advantage plan card which you should
receive in the mail
you will also use this card at the
pharmacy if your plan serves as your
part d coverage now if you have a
supplemental insurance plan like a
retiree or union plan
do make sure to show that plans card to
your doctor or hospital
so that they can build a plan for any of
your out-of-pocket expenses or costs now
your medicare card social security card
and other health insurance cards are
very important documents so make sure to
keep a photocopy
of all of these uh important
identification and insurance cards you
know write down and import numbers like
your medicare number as an example and
just keep everything in a safe place so
that you have a record for future
reference just in case anything happens
to get lost
now if your
medicare card is ever lost stolen or
damaged you can get a replacement card
by calling 1-800 medicare
or 1-800-633-4227
you can also
order or print a card by logging into
your
mymedicare.gov account
now something to keep in mind if you're
getting ready to enroll in medicare for
the first time or if you're already
enrolled in medicare
and that is that one of the most
important things you can do is to review
all your options as medicare plans and
benefits they're updating and changing
each year and for example if you're
enrolling for the first time it can be
very confusing try to figure out which
plan might be right for you and if
you're already enrolled it's a good idea
to review your coverage each year
because you could be missing out on some
important uh benefits offered by the
major providers in your state by
reviewing your coverage you may be able
to upgrade your benefits without having
to pay more money
but in either situation this can be
confusing to try and figure out all
these things on your own fortunately
there is a very simple way to get the
most recent benefits without having to
call several insurance companies or
spend endless endless amounts of time
scrolling through the internet there is
a completely free no obligation helpline
to give those enrolling in medicare for
the first time or those already in
medicare the information they need to
take advantage of all the most recent
benefits available to them so if you're
wondering about how to sign up
for medicare and finding the right plan
for you or if you're worried you don't
fully understand your current medicare
plan or maybe you're just curious about
the other types of benefits you could
get at no extra cost
either way you can go ahead and call
this toll-free number which is
1-800-208-9613
and i will also put that number in the
description area below this video
then once you call you'll get the chance
to speak with someone who will be happy
to answer any questions you might have
and find the best coverage available for
you and for your particular situation
and even if it's outside the annual
enrollment period it's still very easy
to switch your plan if you'd like to do
so also if you have any questions you'd
like to post down in the comment section
below we'd love getting to answer as
many of those as we can otherwise i hope
this video was helpful for you and i'll
look forward to seeing you in the next
video
