hi I'm Chris Vanderpump for Jefferson
your company we a Jackson Norman and get
you back into your house as quickly as
possible
Jackson door has been a trusted supplier
of millwork to the New Orleans area
since 1959 during these times of high
demand sometimes it's hard to get your
carpenter or your contractor out to the
job quickly but by following a few
simple steps that we're gonna show you
in this video you can go ahead and get
your door units on the order now first
step is to go to our website
Jefferson Norcom and download two pieces
of information first our door unit order
form and second our molding selection
guide once you have those download and
this is a few measurements if you have
to take once you have your sheet rock
back on your wall and you're probably
left with something like this this is
called a rough opening to measure for
your door units the first step is to
label each opening so you know which
door goes in which opening on the left
hand side if I can get it over four we
have a number the first unit of course
is unit number one take a sharpie marker
and Mark that stud door unit number one
that way you'll know that door unit
number one goes in to okay number one
the second step is to measure your rough
opening you always start with the win in
this case the width of our rough opening
is thirty-five inches the height of our
rough opening is 82 inches with that
information we'll determine what your
door size is your door side is going to
be actually a little bit smaller now if
you happen to call in your order as
opposed to using our forum be sure to
specify that the measurement that you're
giving to the salesperson is the rough
opening measurement not the door size
the third measure that you have to take
is the jamb size which is the thickness
of your wall in this case the wall
thickness is four and a half inches
now we're going to add an eighth of an
inch just to be safe but if you give our
salespeople or write on this form the
wall thickness will make those
adjustments now the typical wall
thickness for a wall that has a 2x4 wall
with half an sheetrock on both sides is
going to be four and a half inches which
will take a four and five eighths inch
jamb however be sure to measure your
wall thickness on every single opening
because it's not always the same in
every room for example a bathroom might
have thicker walls because of pipes that
are running through the wall so be sure
to take your time and measure each wall
thickness in each room the next piece of
information that we're going to need is
the hand or swing of the door the way
you determine that is first off
visualize in your room which way you
want your door to swing in this case I
want this door swaying against this wall
so determine whether it's a left hand or
right hand door I'm gonna put my back
against the wall where the hinges are
located and then from there I'm going to
use my arm and simulate the door opening
in this case I'm using my right hand to
simulate the door opening and closing so
this is going to be a right hand
swinging door that's another example if
I wanted the door with the hinges on
this wall with the door opening this way
I'm simulating the door with my left arm
so this is going to be elected swinging
door the last piece of information that
we need is the casing the casing is the
trim that runs around you're going in
and it comes in varying widths from two
of the quarters of an all the way up to
four inches
in determining which trim with to go
with it it's important to look at how
close your door unit is to your wall in
this case this door is pretty close to
this wall so I'm not going to be able to
go with a very thick casing I have to go
with a narrower casing but keep in mind
you don't have to have
the same trim on both sides of door you
can have one on the outside and one on
the inside it's up to you now in our
politics election guide we have all our
different casings listed and you can see
what they look like and see the
different widths from there you're
finished measuring the rough opening you
can make a few more selections on the
second page of our Gorian in order form
we show bunch of different door styles
you can circle which one you like now
this by no means is this is not all the
door styles that we have available we
have plenty more but these are the most
popular door styles you can tell us
whether you want a hollow or solid core
and the hinge color most popular right
now is oil rubbed bronze and satin
nickel hinges keep in mind
