what is involved in getting a background
check and how much does it cost well
first of all a background check can
include many different things typically
for a client it includes a research of a
person's activities meaning what they've
done there are associations meaning who
they've been hanging around with or who

records only exist in a piece of paper
in a folder somewhere if you do a
database search it's not going to show
that database searches are provided by
private companies are not provided by
government or official agencies it's by
a private company what's on their
database is going to be limited to
whatever they have decided to buy they
can go into let's say a county and say i
want to buy all your criminal records
and they buy a DVD or disc or download
and they put their criminal records for
this county for a private provider they
would have to buy the criminal records
for every county in the country to have
a complete background check not every
county allows bulk sale of their records
so any electronic database is going to
be limited to whatever that private
company decided to buy and what they've
indexed to put on that database the
upside to that is it's very cheap and
very quick you can usually get it within
a day and it might cost a hundred
dollars or less what about an in-person
search well you can do
that two ways either local in person or
residence history local meaning that if
your subject of your background check
lives in let's say Dallas Texas you can
do a local search of all the Dallas
Texas records criminal court houses
police departments civil court at the
county state level in Dallas you can do
City lookups for things like infractions
leans against the house that type of
thing at the local level that's only
going to tell you what that person is
done wrong in that area for person lived
in that town for almost all their life
then a local in person search might be
appropriate what if the person's moved
around and like most people have that
you have to go back and first look at
their entire residence history where
have they lived throughout their life
that they live in New Jersey then
Pennsylvania then Texas and then
Colorado you have to look at all those
states and then do an in-person search
of all the places they live to make sure
that there's not a hidden conviction for
narcotics or maybe a small infraction
for a stolen or forged check in some
city that won't show up on any
electronic database and it won't show up
if you look local in person so in
deciding how to do a background check
first of all figure out what is it
needed for what are the purposes that
the search is going to be needed for is
it for employment is referred to do a
business deal is it for to hire somebody
maybe to be a babysitter you want to
know what the purpose is and then look
at the legalities is it legal to do that
background check sometimes for
employment purposes the state has laws
of when and when you can't run a
background check so start out with what
it's needed for what activities or
information you want to get and then
