Two dollar bills. You know, a lot of people think that they're hard to come
by or are unattainable overall but I always tell them - you can just get them at the bank.
Hi, I'm John, director of The Two Dollar Bill Documentary, and I
thought today we would try a little experiment. We're gonna go to ten
different banks and see how many $2 bills we can get by cleaning them out of
whatever they have.
We're gonna record everything using this hidden camera which
looks like a button on my shirt. This will allow you to see every single
thing that happens inside each bank. So before we head out I want you to try to
guess how many $2 bills you think will get, so click on the card above me
and put in your guess - and no coming back and changing it after you've seen the
right answer. Ready? Let's go!
Okay, we're pulling up to our first bank, it's a Bank of America. Let's go inside
and see how many $2 bills we can get. Hi.
Like to know if you have any $2 bills? I do! Oh, really?
Yes I do! How many do you have? One thous--- one hundred twenty.
Just a hundred twenty... bills? Or a hundred twenty dollars? Dollars. I'll take it! Perfect!
People actually bring them and deposit them?
Right, clients bring them in. People use them? ya know why they don't keep them.
Thank you very much!
I need to know... you have any $2 bills?
How many do you have?
Okay, can I have that? 60 dollars - so 30 bills. I'll take it.
They're crisp? Where'd you get them?
You're happy to get rid of them, right? Oh yeah.
Thank you so much! Appreciate it.
Just wondering if you guys have any $2 bills?
Just one? Are there any at the drive-thru?
Eight dollars. Okay, yeah. I'll take those.
Well here's $8, and I will take your four $2 bills. Thank you.
Okay, we're off to a pretty good start: three banks, all three had $2 bills so we're batting
a hundred percent. Let's see what bank number four brings us.
Hi. I'm looking for some $2 bills. Do you have any $2 bills?
How many do you have?
Eighty two... dollars? Alright I'll take $82.
How do you know exactly how many you have? That's amazing.
They're not rare as a bill. I mean, you might not get them much but they're not rare.
You counted them right?... eighty two dollars. Thank you very much.
I'm looking for some $2 bills.
This bank has zero, huh?
So we finally hit a bank that has zero two dollar bills, so we
struck out there. But the good news was that the teller was kind of cute!
Good. Just need to know if you guys have $2 bills?
How many you have?
$300 worth? Okay, I'll take the $300.
They obviously got deposited from other people--
Left over from Christmas? Wow. It's April 1, that means they're sitting there for three months.
Bingo.
Thank you. I got a receipt. Appreciate it.
Okay, so that was a great load. We got three hundred dollars in two
dollar bills, our biggest haul yet. And two hundred of the bills were in a strap
those were sequential serial numbers, crisp beautiful bills so we're off and
rolling. Let's go to the next bank and see how many more we can get.
I'm looking for some two dollar bills. Have any $2 bills?
I'll take it. It's a strap of two hundred? Go ahead and swipe.
You keep them, you just don't keep them on the floor.
Nobody asks for them. Nope.
Two hundred. Awesome. Thanks.
Hi. I'm looking for some $2 bills you have any $2 bills?
None at all? Okay, thank you though.
Need to know if you have any $2 bills.
How many do you have? 24 record dollars I played four bills all
44 dollars, not 44 bills. Right.
Alright. I'll do a withdrawal of $44. Thank you very much.
Nine banks down, one to go. We've got eight hundred and fourteen
dollars so far. That means if we can get another strap of $200 like we've done
before, we can get over $1,000. So let's go into our final bank - it's a Chase - and
see what happens.
I need to make a withdrawal. You have any $2 bills?
You have more than a hundred or just a hundred?
What do you have?
That how much you have - $160? I'll take the $160.
That's it. You've been very helpful.
Well, we didn't quite get to $1,000 but we did score three Red Seal bills in that bank.
We got a 1928 and two 1953s. Not in the best condition, but those are hard to find.
So we ended up with 974 dollars total. Let's check the stats.
Here's a breakdown of each of the ten banks we visited.
We got $974 total, which is 487 two dollar bills.
Also, eight out of ten banks had them, which is a very high percentage.
Not bad for a full day's work.
Thanks for going along with me on this anything-but-scientific experiment.
