whether your house is big or small
you're probably interested in anything
that's gonna give you more space now one
way to do that is to get more organized
and that's easy to do you can put things
up like hooks shelves and anything that
lets you get stuff off the floor now
that's easy to do if you're going to put
those things into walls that are made of
drywall or wood but why stop there
because you've got concrete walls in
your basement or maybe in your garage
and that's free space that's totally
unused I'm gonna show you the simplest
and easiest way to mount just about
anything to concrete you can do yourself
in a way that's straightforward and
almost foolproof reason most people fail
when they try to mount things to
concrete is that they choose the wrong
fastener and the problem is these things
say that they're great for concrete I
never had good luck with these at all
these caused me nothing but problems
brought me to this fastener to these
blue screws that seemed to be very
popular they cost a lot and in my
experience they failed all the time I
never could get them right and
everything changed for me when I found
these fasteners they're made by a few
companies they're called hammer drive
nails drive nails drive it's nail it's
whatever you call them they work very
well I've linked some in the description
that I use and have had good experience
with this is mounted right in a concrete
and these little fasteners made the job
so easy but they're only appropriate for
certain kinds of mounting and that's
gonna be when you've got holes that are
directly visible on the item you want a
mount and these hooks right here you can
see the mounting holes so that's not a
problem you can go right through the
holes into the wall and the same goes
for these shelf brackets if you put
these up using those mounting holes you
could put shelving anywhere you want now
onto the project now the wall you're
looking at is in my garage and that
entire wall is concrete now you could be
doing this in your basement or maybe
even a half wall in your garage so the
first thing we're going to do is clear
out the area so that we have some good
space to work now this is perfect
because you can see those mounting holes
are directly accessible and that means
the fastener can go right in the next
step we've got to do is our layout now
that's the other reason I like these
fasteners because you don't have to
measure or mark anything in advance in
this case I'm just going to take a
two-by-four
I'm gonna place that bracket on the wall
and it's ready for
next step but before we get there we've
got to understand that these fasteners
come in different sizes that bracket is
pretty thin and I like to buy the ones
that are an inch and a half long that
gives me plenty of room to work with and
you can always get ones that are too
long but you don't want them too short
but how do these things actually work
ten that would is your concrete wall
you're gonna drill the right sized hole
drop in your anchor and then just take a
regular hammer and you're gonna hit that
nail in the center down until it's
completely flush now for this experiment
I've made the hole a little bit too big
so we can pull the anchor out and see
what's actually happening and what it's
doing is it's forcing the nail between
the anchor and it spreads those wings
apart now when that's in concrete that
becomes rock solid now onto the actual
kit you're gonna get the anchors of
course and the special drill bit now you
want to use the one they give you with
the kit because it's exactly the right
size and you do need one of these this
isn't a regular drill it's a hammer
drill it's got two settings you can see
one says drill that other set in there
is for the hammer drill setting it works
just like a drill but when you put it in
concrete it's gonna drill very smoothly
and it pounds a little bit into the
concrete now this is really loud and it
can be messy so you want to wear ear
protection and eye protection there's
another tip I have my daughter here
holding a vacuum cleaner
as I drill right through the bracket
remember I didn't mark anything off I'm
just gonna drill right through the first
hole as she vacuums it up all the dust
from the concrete is going right into
the vacuum with the first hole done I'm
gonna put the anchor in place through
the bracket this will hold it in place
and now I can move right on to drilling
the second hall I'm using the level
there rather than market beforehand and
it makes it a lot easier and cures using
the vacuum to suck up any dust that's in
the hole you want to make sure it's
cleaned out so that when you put the
anchor in like this it goes in there
smoothly now we've just got a hammer
those nails in place and I've even got a
little bit of wiggle room because
they're both still loose until I hammer
the nails in now this can happen a lot
if you're in a tight squeeze and you can
use a metal rod like this this is a
punch but you could also use a solid
piece of metal pipe something to help
you drive those nails in so that you can
get into a tight space like that without
damaging
thing that you're actually mounting so
with a few fits I get those nails in and
you'll feel it if you put in these in
those anchors tighten up so much but by
the time you're done they feel like
their concrete themselves I could have
stopped with just those two top anchors
because they're so strong but I wanted
to put one on the bottom and to give you
one more tip for when you're drilling
take your drill bit and line up your
anchor and you can use a piece of
electrical tape and you want to mark
about a half inch longer than the actual
anchor and the reason you're doing this
is to give you some guidance when you're
drilling your holes so that you'll know
when to stop finish our final hole you
can see that that vacuum pulls the dust
right into it so it keeps us a lot
cleaner and then we finish by just
sucking out any dust in the hole insert
our final anchor and we're ready to
hammer it in now because this one was in
the middle I didn't need to use the
punch and I could just hit it with the
hammer directly now you can't tell from
the video but when you use these anchors
you know they're and they're so solid
that the brackets won't move at all and
that's exactly what you want especially
if you're going to be hanging some heavy
items and now we actually get to use the
thing that we just installed and I can
finally get organized
now those anchors are really sturdy and
they hold over a hundred pounds of piece
which is good because these cartridges
can weigh up to 30 pounds apiece
but I don't have to worry because I know
the job was done right and they're
totally secure now your job might vary a
bit but this is how I mount these type
of brackets to concrete and it works so
well for me and I hope this gives you an
idea of something you might be able to
apply to your own home and get organized
yourself if you like this video please
