How to Measure Butter

Sharing buttons:

hello this is mrs. leer with another

how-to video today I'm going to review

how to measure butter when you buy

better in the store typically you will

buy a pound of butter a pound of butter

equals four sticks so one two three four

now when you're measuring butter what

you will need is a knife and either a

custard cup or plate to put your butter

on first of all butter is dummy proof

right on the label it will tell you how

to measure its marked with tablespoons

and this one butter is actually marked

with teaspoons first of all a rule of

thumb to remember is that one stick of

butter equals 1/2 the cup also a half a

cup equals eight tablespoons and it will

tell you right on the label so let's

measure our butter

so our recipe calls for a half a cup

what are we going to do well that one's

easy because we know one stick of butter

equals a half a cup roll up we're done

now let's say we need 1 cup of butter

that's easy as well because we know 1/2

a cup and a half a cup equals a hold so

this is one cup of butter now let's get

tricky let's say we need a quarter of a

cup of butter again let's look at our

stick of butter

and we know and it says right here four

tablespoons equals a quarter of a cup so

that's half of a half so we're going to

take our knife and we're going to count

four tablespoons one two three four and

I'm just going to cut right through and

there's my quarter of a cup or four

tablespoons of butter that was easy

now let's measure 3/4 cup so I need 3/4

so we know 1/2 a cup you have one 2/4

and here is my third quarter so this is

3/4 cup of butter so one and a half

sticks great now let's talk about

measuring 1/3 cup so how do we measure

1/3 cup again this is dummy proof we can

take a peak here at our stick of butter

and it says Oh 5 and 1/3 tablespoons

equals 1/3 cup so I'm going to take my

stick of butter and I'm going to count 1

2 3 4 5 and 1/3 again I'm just going to

take my knife and my stick of butter and

that will give me

1/3 cup so that's very easy

now let's say I just need two

tablespoons of butter so I'm going to

take my stick of butter and I'm just

going to count one two and then I would

just cut it the same way okay so it's

very easy now in class we buy our butter

in bulk so we usually will cut our

butter into a half a cup stick and then

you will have to figure out what it is

that you will need but we have these

handy dandy sheets where it says cut

your own butter so it's the same label

again if you can read it it will tell

you how to measure the quarter of a cup

the half a cup and the 1/3 cup but again

it's key to remember one stick of butter

equals a half a cup and a half a cup

contains eight tablespoons so if you can

remember those you're pretty good to go

and you probably won't need to really

refer to this that much again this is a
