hi everyone it's vipkid teacher aaron
and i am back today with another vipkid
hiring help video
i make videos here on youtube all about
vipkid so
those are videos you may be interested
in definitely consider
clicking the subscribe button bringing
the little notification bell so you get
notified whenever i post a new video
today's video is all about the vipkid
application and hiring process
taking the plunge into starting your own
vap kit journey
can be exciting nerve wracking and
sometimes a bit
just overwhelming and frustrating this
is why today i am demystifying the
entire hiring process and i'm really
going to be breaking down each and every
[Music]
step
[Music]
before we really dive into things the ap
kid is always changing
so please make sure you always check the
description box below each of my videos
down in there you'll find any hiring
process changes
any changes or updates related to things
i've shared in this video
links to my website which will always
have the most updated information
regarding the hiring process vipkid
anything as well as links to my facebook
group sevilla kid hiring q a
and vipkid teacher q a and links to my
social
media stuff now the first step i want to
talk about in the hiring process with
vipkid is an
unofficial step and that is to first
find
a vipkid mentor so applying with a
referring teacher or having a vipkid
mentor
can be beneficial for many applicants
getting all your questions you can get
answered by someone else
and sort of just having someone to help
you along the way and answer any
questions is so helpful
even if you don't end up having
questions applying with a referring
teacher
doesn't cost you anything so why not
there are many resources on youtube and
many mentors out there you can choose
from
so just find one that you'd like to work
with and see what types of resources
they're offering to their referrals or
you know just see who you jive with
personally i offer my referrals
access to this complete
password-protected section of my website
your esl journey
and it's basically an e-course that
walks them through the entire hiring
process of vipkid so in addition to this
roadmap to vipkid
my good friend sydney and i have also
developed
a hired teacher section a higher
teacher's guide
so you have access to more resources
after you are hired as well so i will
leave a link in the description box that
you can see
uh with info on how to apply with me as
your referring teacher and my referral
link
as well as more info on that now the
first official
step in the vipkid hiring process after
you've chosen your mentor
and all of that good stuff is to create
an account and fill out an application
online
before you apply go ahead and make sure
you meet the
vipkid teacher requirements so they're
looking for
fluent english speakers you'll need to
have a usa or canadian citizenship
or have a green card they'll ask you for
that you do have to have eligibility to
work in the usa or canada
two or more years of teaching experience
or teaching related experience
like tutoring or mentoring that all
counts it used to just be one year but
i'm pretty sure they switched it to two
years
and you need to have a bachelor's degree
in any field acquired from
anywhere in the world and you also need
a computer
with a webcam and a headphone
with microphone that wasn't a sentence
you also need a computer with a webcam
and you need headphones that have a
microphone and you need stable internet
that's important so it should only take
you a couple minutes to
apply through a referral link if that's
what you want to do
and then make an account and fill out an
application there's no resume submission
required so don't worry about working on
a resume if you are trying to apply for
vipkid
now the next step is the demo stage
formerly known as the interview stage
now you actually have a few options with
this stage so inside the vipkid hiring
portal
on a desktop or laptop computer you will
have
the recorded demo lesson and the live
demo lesson that you can do now the live
demo
includes scheduling this out ahead of
time and then
you complete a brief interview and teach
five minutes worth of a
prior given lesson during a scheduled 30
minute time slot now due to concerns
over the coronavirus currently i am
filming this in july of 2020. they are
currently
experiencing a shortage of staff over in
beijing
so in the meantime you might log in and
see that you only have the recorded demo
lesson option available to you
now the recorded demo option that you'll
also see in your portal on a desktop or
computer
usually includes viewing some prep
materials taking a quick quiz
and then teaching a set of three slides
so you're teaching this to an imaginary
student
now because of kobit 19 and the portal
change with them not offering the live
interview right now
some people are seeing that they are
having to teach
the simplified me myself and eye lesson
that you would normally teach during the
live interview so just whatever lesson
pops up there
um you're going to teach that so some
people are seeing that and they're not
having to take the quiz
but normally in any normal circumstances
you take a short quiz and then you teach
three slides so whatever slides are
there
that's what you're teaching now the
third option which is my favorite option
to complete the smart demo on your
mobile phone so you do this
using the vipkid teach app and you do
this on your own time so this
involves doing some prep materials
completing a five question quiz and then
teaching just
one slide to an imaginary student can
you do it all on your phone
now vipkid used to have these fast pass
coaching days that you could go to in
person and online but as of right now
they are not offering those if they do
start offering those again i will
definitely let you guys know
probably in the description of this
video oh
one second my hair is bothering me it's
so long you guys
it's what happens when you can't leave
your house now all of these demo lesson
options do have a central focus
basically they just want you to be
encouraging and smiling
and know how to follow directions and
they're also looking
uh to make sure that you are a fluent
english speaker
and they do want to make sure you have a
pretty
neutral american accent i know that
sounds silly that anyone can have a
neutral accent
um but just no really defining
characteristic accents like super
southern or
thick boston accent i'm not sure but
they just want the pronunciation of
words to be
more uniform throughout the va kid
curriculum and in their teachers and if
you have a thick accent just
fake it till you make it i should know
that you should review what you need for
your demo interview
like props and how to set up your
background so you'll want to make sure
you get your classroom essentials down
before you jump into doing your demo
lesson
now the next stage in the hiring process
is the certification or mock class stage
now these
mock classes or certification mock
classes
these are done to make sure you can
really implement all the vipkid teaching
strategies that they teach you in the
hiring process
big smiles tpr synthetic phonics
engaging props they want you to have a
visible reward system
you're using positive corrections etc
so vipkid will provide you with the
lessons you are teaching
once you get to that stage so everyone
in the mock class process
has access to vh kids certification
center
so in there you'll watch some videos
read some info and then choose which
levels you'd like to be certified in and
then you will complete the corresponding
mock class
so there will actually be two lessons
that you have to look over and prep for
for each mock class or each level you
decide to do
and you won't know which of the two
lessons you are teaching until you get
into the mock class you actually have to
prep for both of them and they're just
going to be a 10 minute lesson you can
and will likely have to take the mock
class
more than once so basically you can take
the mock class
over and over again until you pass or
until they just
think that you have obtained all the
skills to then become
a working vip teacher so they're really
using the stage as a
learning process don't think of it as
passing or failing think of each mock
class as
another learning opportunity so once you
pass that initial demo interview stage
you can really see yourself as a hired
vapk teacher because you can take your
mock class in the certification stage
over and over again
there's no failing i should note that
because of the coronavirus right now
they are not offering the intermediate
level during the hiring process so
normally um as of late it's been the
beginner level
which is level two and three and then
the intermediate level which is levels
four and five
yeah they're not doing intermediate
right now because of coronavirus and
shortages i guess
so just follow what's in your portal and
see what's available to you
now once you pass your mock class it'll
move you into the
next stage which is basically the
contract info and background check stage
and here is where you will also have to
take a tesol
foundational course so it's just a
training and a quiz that you have to
take and this is in the vipkid portal
before you sign your contract so if you
indicated on your
application that you already have a
tesol certificate
you may be allowed to bypass this but
they will ask for
proof of your certification the ap kids
tesol course provides a lot of great
background
on second language acquisition and it
was actually developed with
tesol now the tesol quiz can be taken as
many times as you want
until you pass so no need to stress
about not passing that i also have
resources to help you prepare for that
quiz
in my roadmap to be a kid e-course that
my
referrals get access to now many
teachers choose to get a tesl
certification before applying with
vipkid and this can sometimes bump up
your base pay a little bit
or start you at a higher pay tier i
actually have a referral link to an
online 120 hour
tesol certification that you can obtain
through
online open academy international open
academy
international online anyways the course
is only 19
which is like 80 something percent off
the normal price which is
awesome and if you apply with a tesol
certificate
already in hand and you don't have to
take the vipkid tesol quiz and you can
just
bypass that all together after you pass
your mock class in your tesol quiz
you will upload the necessary documents
like your diploma
any certifications teaching
certifications things like that and
you'll also go through a standard
background check that vipkid pays for
coronavirus sidebar that might take a
hot second
just with what's going on in the world
you will then set up your teacher
profile that students and parents will
see
by uploading a few pictures a short
intro video
uh you don't need to stress about this
during the hiring process because you
can always change it later
then you are ready to open up your
bookings and start teaching
now a big question i get is aaron what
if i
fail so if at any point you fail the
hiring process or you failed that first
initial
demo lesson stage it is not the end of
the world you can reapply
right away with a new email address
which gives you more time to practice
and hone your skills
which is honestly a good thing because
remember once you get hired
you are hired you are thrown to the
rules and expected to teach just like
any other
veteran vipkid teacher and it's really
not uncommon for people to reapply
and then get glowing reviews during
their interview stage the second time
around
that is about it make sure you check out
the description box below this video
to find helpful links uh shoot me an
email or leave me a question in the
comments below if you have any
and uh yeah definitely check out my
website for
more resources and um yeah
definitely subscribe if you want to see
more videos like this
and follow me on instagram for life
updates okay guys i will see you in the
next video
bye
