hi everyone it's tony here in today's
short video i'm going to show you
how you can attach a file to a word
document
this is really useful when you're
putting together a report
and you want to refer to another file
like a spreadsheet
rather than copying and pasting the
content of the file which can sometimes
get a bit messy
embed the file instead the recipient of
the report
can then just double click on the file
to open it
let's take a look
[Music]
to insert a file into a word document
click where you want to insert the file
and then click the insert tab
and then over here under the text group
click on this drop-down and you've got
objects
if the file is already created then
and then select your file by clicking
browse
locate the file that you want to insert
now over here you've got two check boxes
the first one
link to file only use link to file
if the people that you're sending this
document to have access to the files
location
so perhaps it's on a shared network
drive
the advantages of using linked file is
that people will see
any updates made to this file here
in this example i'm going to keep it
deselected
and the second check box is display as
icon
so if i click display as icon it will
automatically
pick an icon relating to the file but if
i want to change it i just click here
and i've got a range of options to
choose from i'm going to go for this
green one because i think it stands out
a bit more
caption allows you to change the text
that goes alongside
that icon so in this example i've given
a little instruction
a bit more information about what this
file is all about
so then just click ok and then ok to
complete
so there's a spreadsheet embedded into
the word document
