[Music]
welcome back it's Jeff Lepard from Jeff
Lepard comm on this channel we do a lot
of product reviews do-it-yourself videos
make a ssin videos and much more so if
you're new to this channel consider
subscribing first thing we're gonna do
is we're gonna unbox the ring home
security system and see what we got
inside alright so we're just gonna take
this off open it up and here we have our
base station the alarm this is your
mainframe just put this aside we got
some brochures so we have a ring sticker
you can put on your door or your glass
window just to identify that you have
ring products okay we've got got some
how to mount your ring base station okay
that's what this is we got getting
started and that just tells you your
steps what you need to do and we have a
ring alarm kit and this is your gives
you different information about security
the basics of the system okay we're
gonna pull out the rest here we have our
keypad and it's also got the the
mounting bracket on the back here which
you can either use as a standalone or
you can mount it on the wall and it's
quite easy once you mount on the wall
you can easily take it in and out so
that you can either charge it or keep it
plugged in so this is your keypad you're
actually gonna be using
to activate and deactivate the system or
you could also do it with your phone and
I'll show me that later on so we have
our motion sensor as well this out and
these are very light you can mount them
using screws but you really don't need
to there's gonna be some adhesive
adhesion tape in here that you can just
stick and that's that will do just fine
put this aside here we have our this is
going to be either to put on a window or
a door so this is your trigger it's
gonna be your this will activate whether
your door or window is open so this is
gonna talk to the station so this is
this is a must-have I'm gonna put this
aside and we have a range extender so
this you just plug in the wall and this
is gonna connect your devices together
with the base station and it's gonna
allow better networking so we'll put
this aside
let's open up here and of course let me
just get this up for you guys so here we
have our we have our adapter this is
gonna be for your base station we have
our USB and plug this is to charge the
keypad or you can keep it plugged in and
also I will mention one thing right now
the the base station actually has a
backup battery system so shoot your
power go off it will have enough power
to run for about 24 hours
and of course we got our mounting
mounting installation kit and this is
our keypad installation kit
this out and this is the contacts
installation kit so if you guys are
actually liking this video and you're
wanting to purchase one of these I'm
gonna leave a link down below for you to
do so do that if you want to check it
out I'm really excited about installing
this so I'm gonna get started the first
step is we're going to power up the base
station for the alarm system and if you
notice here there's an also an Ethernet
connection and you have your AC
connection as well where you gonna plug
in so if you want to use Ethernet or you
want to plug it into your router you can
go directly into the router or you can
use the Wi-Fi so to set this up on the
ring app we're first going to power this
up and then we're gonna go through the
setup process so I've got the the AC
adapter here so we're just gonna go
ahead and you can see that's what we're
gonna plug it in and we'll run the wire
later on and just for now I'm just gonna
plug it in here so we're gonna go into
the ring app and what we're gonna do is
we're gonna click setup a device and
then we're gonna scroll down to alarm
you're gonna choose the address where
you're gonna set the alarm and hit
continue okay so you have to know your
Wi-Fi password and then you're gonna hit
continue
okay and now it says wait for the ring
to illuminate and press the pairing
button okay and the pairing button is
right here so we're gonna press that
okay when the illuminated ring on top
starts to spin tap to find my base
station okay so now we're at whether
we're using Ethernet or Wi-Fi and we're
gonna use Wi-Fi with this we're gonna
click we're gonna click on that okay now
you're going to search your net
work click on that and enter the
password okay so once you enter your
password
you're gonna hit connect and you can see
the base is uh confirming that okay so
it's it's found the internet connection
says setup is success so we're gonna hit
continue
no it's connecting again now it's
complete okay next step is to plug in
the range extender so I'm I'm at the
outlet where I'm going to install it I
have the phone ready and I'm gonna
activate that so first I'm gonna plug
this in the wall and on the app I'm
going to click range extender okay
so now it's working adding device okay
and that's added I'm just gonna click on
the ring wave extender ok and what room
will you place the wave extender in so
this is gonna be the living room I'm
just gonna click on that okay and range
extender and click done so I just
disconnected the AC adapter we're gonna
install the base first and we're
actually gonna be putting it up on the
wall here so what I did I got two screws
at the back I'm just going to place it
on to the wall where I'm gonna be
drilling and I'm just gonna mark with a
marker
so I'm just gonna hammer drill through
the wall in order to put the plugs now
we just have some plugs I'm gonna push
into the wall so that I can screw and
support the base now I'm just going to
install the screws but I'm gonna leave
it sticking out a little bit just like
hanging a mirror or a pitcher on the
wall you got to leave a little bit of
room so that the the base or whatever
your hanging is going to be able to go
through the slots now that the screws
are in before I have to take it off
again I'm going to connect the AC
adapter on the back like so and run the
wire into the grooves of the unit so
that it's flush when I install it into
the wall okay
now I'm ready to hang the unit
get it into the holes like so the next
step we're gonna be installing the ring
keypad so I'm just gonna be a fixing it
to the wall so I'm just gonna pull this
keypad off and I'm gonna first install
the mounting bracket so I'm gonna put it
red vote here so it's gonna line it up
where I'm going to install it and use my
marker and I'm just gonna mark where I'm
going to drill the holes just gonna put
two dots there in the kit it came with a
keypad installation kit so it's quite
simple it's just a bag with the two
plugs and screws you just want to make
sure that you have a drill bit that's
gonna match the plug when we do now I'm
going to drill the two holes that I'm
going to use for the plugs that came
with the kit
[Music]
[Music]
so now that the plugs are in I'm gonna
go ahead and fix the mounting plate for
the keypad on the wall one screw in
now we're going to hook up the USB cable
to it and we're going to be plugging it
into the wall so I'm just gonna unravel
this
just just gonna sit in here we'll tidy
up the wires after but right now during
the installation we just want to make
sure that there's power to the device
and it's lighting up next step is to set
it up to the phone so we have our app
open and we're just adding the device
cuz we're still continuing to set up the
alarm and the next is the ring keypad
we're gonna tap that what room will you
place this in we're gonna top a kitchen
okay and we're gonna top the keypad
install your keypad please keep at where
it's most convenient so we're gonna hit
continue okay now we're gonna choose an
access code for the purpose of this
video we're just gonna choose one two
three four and of course you can change
it at any time we're gonna continue okay
it says the success s success we're
gonna hit done and it should be set up
next we're gonna be setting up the
contact sensor and this is the install
kit you're just gonna see what's inside
and open this up we can see we have some
3m tape which is good enough to actually
stick that on there we go and this is
your that's your sensor right there so
this is how it's gonna work so first
thing we're gonna take the sensor and
you'll see it says pull to power on so
we're gonna pull this right now okay and
you can see that it's now activated okay
so we're gonna put the bracket in and
clip that in and we're going to use the
3m tape that came with this and we're
going to use that to stick on
okay so just peeling that stick that on
the bracket okay and once you've done
that you can peel the clear plastic off
and we're gonna put it right at the side
here all right there
just press firmly to make sure it's on
and it is next we're going to install
the other side of the sensor so what we
got to do is just click this into place
and you'll hear it click and of course
we're using the 3m so you just want to
peel the backing off of that like this
okay and that's gonna go right across
the back here
press down firmly and remove the clear
piece so now when you're installing this
piece you want to make sure that you're
not more than a quarter inch away so the
closer the better but not more than a
quarter inch so I'm gonna do it right at
the edge of the frame and press firmly
okay so we've got the app open we're
gonna touch the ring contact sensor okay
how we use the sensor okay this is the
main door so that's what we're gonna
press okay what room we place the ring
contact sensor in okay so you got you
got a drop-down menu this is no room
assigned so we're just gonna go no room
assigned
okay give your contact sensor a name
front door okay say hello to your
contact sensor okay and we're gonna skip
that okay we're gonna go continue to
test your door sensor open and close the
door okay so let's do that okay
we're opened and now it's closed so that
worked
we're gonna hit done and its success
click done and last but not least the
ring motion sensor is next
so we have our motion sensor and again
it says to pull the power e to power on
pull the tab that power on okay and it's
lighting up and we're going to open up
the motion detector installation kit
okay and again we have the backing plate
installation plate and we've got some 3m
tape which we'll do because it's not
that heavy we have our mounting plate so
we're just gonna go ahead and fix that
on since we're using the 3m tape okay
like so and we're gonna take the 3m tape
we're gonna peel off the one side okay
like that and this is a corner install
that we're gonna be installing uh see
you'll see if you're doing a fly to
install this is where it goes there's
another piece you can use for the flat
install but we're installing it in a
corner so you want to get the 3m tape
down the sides so I'm just gonna line
that up here and press down and remove
and we'll do the same thing for the
other side okay and we're gonna press
this down
like so so now we're ready to install
the motion sensor keep in mind you want
to install it at least seven feet off
the ground if you have that much room
the higher the better
so that captures more of the floor space
so we're gonna put it right up here in
the corner just about an inch or two
down below okay and we're going to
firmly press like so and that's in there
really good so we've got the app open
we're just gonna click on motion sensor
okay and this is a room and this is the
living room okay we're gonna click on
motion detector okay we will continue
okay use tap okay and continue again
wanna test emotion okay and we can test
it okay test modes will be on okay cover
your motion detector okay if the LEDs
stop blinking and close the cover
continue without testing ok setup is
complete go to dashboard so we're just
at the keypad and I'm gonna test the
system out to make sure that I can arm
it disarm it
or be home and armed so what you do is
just gonna punch in our code and we're
gonna click dis on the arm so it's gonna
give you a countdown it's gonna give you
enough time to leave so you can disarm
it by typing in the code and now it's
disarmed if you're you're gonna go to
bed and you want to arm it you're home
in armed you can also do this on the
phone and I'll show you so we can just
use the app right here and it's easy
easy as that so I'm gonna test the siren
out to make sure that it's a nice and
audible we can hear it so first we're
gonna go to devices okay we're gonna go
to base station and you can do a number
of things in here test siren okay we're
gonna hit test so there's a number of
different things you can do in here we
just did test siren you can check
firmware updates to make sure you have
the latest update audio settings you can
control how loud you want the siren and
save that you can go back you can go in
the keypad there's audio settings for
your keypad we've got event history
it'll log everything that's going on you
can see there the range extender you can
see event histories there and you see
that it's talking to the base station so
everything is good so the last final
test that we gonna do I'm just gonna arm
the system as if we're leaving I'm gonna
open the door
the system is armed just to make sure
that the alarm activates and that's the
final test so we're gonna hit away now
you're gonna have a a countdown it's
currently set for 60 seconds you can
change that in the settings and you can
put it to any desirable minutes that you
want just for you to have enough time to
get out of the house so now the system
is armed I'm going to act as if the door
has been breached and broke it open so
now it's given a warning then the doors
been open and if the code is not punched
in in a certain amount of time it will
activate the alarm it's doing it
countdown right now so 10 seconds the
code has not been entered it will sound
the alarm that's it it's really easy to
install if I can do it you guys can do
it too
