Need up to 30 seconds to load.
okay today we're gonna have a look at
how to
store the third-generation nest
thermostat
first of all whatever look in the box
see what we got in there so the other
type fit there we up we've got the nest
it's a very Apple esque the packing in
this out there that I do instructions
the heat link the adapter for the nest
and you've got is the heat link that go
on the wall by the boiler and we got the
wire and there the link to the adapter
that power the nest and then in here
that's the stand about the the bracket
for the wall or to fit it to the stand
and then very bottom we've got the
adapter plate if you are replacing your
old thermostat and there's a big hole in
the wall and that adapter plate will
cover up any holes or anything in the
wall so there you go I've chosen to buy
a stand because we're not a hundred
percent sure and where we're going to
put it at the moment so we're going to
try it around the room different places
and then maybe at a later date when we
decorate might end up putting it on the
wall
we got the instructions they're all very
good cause and a bit we're going to be
interested in is by there
and the wiring diagram I'll be using so
a 230 volt or 240 volt combi boiler and
that's how we'll be wiring errors in
hopefully very straightforward okay this
is a setup that we've got at the moment
we've had a new was the bosch green star
30s a compact installed
unfortunately the nest didn't arrive in
time for that to all be installed
together so we've just got that with any
programmer or any thermostat on the
moment because we our house didn't have
a thermostat previously for some reason
so that's the reason for buying the net
it's going to drop the front down off
that so we can link the nest into it but
and then screw their screw there and
screw there and then that just slides
down there you go and off it comes
there's all the wire in there right if
we look closely at the connections now
on the boiler we can see that this is
where we need to connect our thermostat
around by here because we got the live
and neutral out and we've also got an
earth out but we don't need that because
the nest is of the heat Lingus plastic
so there's no other us on it it's also
the switch for the sensor eaten in the
hot water now the hot water and
essentially in the currently looped
straight to the life so there's a
constant life to both the hot water one
will stay there because obviously we
still want constant hot water all the
time the nut fill acetylene will take
out we're going to pot line there which
is literally just like little connector
buck lawyer coming through and it'll go
through the back there and coming in the
back down there and the rain to where
we're going to install the nest the heat
link which is both
so the Pointer end is all wired up now
what we've done is used some three
corners wire purely because I just had
some lying around you can use obviously
the three corners flex as well but what
we've done here is the brain is wired
into the live the gray is white into the
neutral but I've sleeved and blues just
to identify this neutral and I've put
the earth on there as well only because
I thought in case we do change the
thermostat any time in the future and
the other one does need a nurse so it'll
just terminate at the other end and then
you've got the black wire which is like
a switch for the heating on and off
let's put IDs up all the wiring now it's
all linked in and it runs at the back
inside there
I ran the trunk in it will cover up and
then the nest heat link will go by there
just to the right of the switch so to
get into the nest you unscrew this screw
here and the front cover slips off
revealing all the connections there's a
little guide there and a guide to what
the different colors mean when it's on
so now we need to screw onto the wall
through these holes here yeah so we got
the nest in position now I've left a
little gap between the nest and the
shrunken and I will have to cut some of
that trunk in it so we can get to the
screw there otherwise we'll be able to
screw the front plate on yeah you've
still got the loop for the hot water the
white one going right in the back for
the live coming end and go into the heat
link got a neutral coming out which is
smooth blue that's going to the heating
earth as well which is according to the
heating although it's not attached the
other end and the core fur
the core for heating wire is black here
we are not sure if you can see too well
because it's a bit cramped but you can
see we got the brain live go into the Al
and then that looped to the two as well
then we've got the blue sleeved neutral
wire as it is at the boiler going to the
neutral here
and then we've got the black wire which
is basically the heat link down on the
boiler when to come on and off and as
you can see they've taped up the earth
wire so it's just there like the way
just in case we need to put another
thermistor okay now all we need to do
let's connect that so it's secure
okay so now we've connected that clamps
the wire in place so none of the wires
going to pull out ready to put the cover
on incidentally if you were controlling
the hot water you jerzees if you ride
open therm connections on the boiler
you'd use these ie if you were to
connect in the nest
you met direct to this then you would
use these which a 12-volt out but we're
plugging air is in something so there we
have it the heat links on the wall 30
centimeters away from the boiler as
shown in the instructions pull this
letter do now is put a front on the
boiler slide that up and turn them on
I'm not to mention taking this sticker
off a nest that looks neat yeah okay
like I said before we've got the nest
and one is back now not a lot to it a 30
quid is a couple of screws and then here
is a stand white in colour which I
thought was a bit unusual
he knows the actual nest is silver but
there we go okay we'll follow these
simple instructions now okay we take
this this is the back end for the nest
thermostat it's got a spirit level on it
as well so when you're making it on the
wall it'd be nice and straight for what
we're doing with the stand is we'll be
putting that into there take the bottom
off the nest a nice rubber pad thread
that through there like so
and that with myself a bit why are there
that goes into there like so the next
touches to there with two screws that
are provided yeah so it should look and
then the nest connects there just clicks
into place
and there we have it
okay so we got the next all setup now on
a shelf
I put the Shelf up especially I think it
looks quite good actually apart from
this trading wire and the gold awful
wallpaper that we haven't done yet so
near the moment of truth we're going to
in the heat link and then we'll turn
this on and now we'll see if it all
works alright as you can see we've got
the boiler all back together and the
cover back on hey dressed oh and the
heat links there it wants to do is turn
them on
oh yeah blue light on there in the cake
so that's trying to connect so I think
you're downstairs now and turn on the
nest okay let's turn them on
okay
so we'll pick English okay firm your
choice yes
take the 5g one that should be a bit
faster I need render the password
starting the sea from here but the fire
site is showing us oh it's just our fake
oh I'm quite that nice which is good
because this is over years where we're
going to be SAP as you walk up to it so
it comes on Jones 21 degrees is set at
as you go a bit closer goes a bit
further back and then it shows it's
eighteen and a half degrees in here put
it on a little tieing upstairs now
you're trying to get a hotter right 10
minutes on
I'm very well with the nest this is how
the Farsight works
just picks you up from across the room
and there's been an update since I
actually install the thermostat and the
Farsight no there's a lot of different
things you can even have the weather on
there you can have a clock on there and
I've got it set the most useful I think
as the current temperature so this is
what temperature is in the room just got
out there oh yeah it's not Italian as
the walking past is 18 and a half
degrees in the room if I go closer it
knows I'm closer it changes to that so
the heat is set to 18 and you can't
quite see on the video
around the outside it does say there's
18 and a half degrees in here
adjustments take place obviously with
this orange now means that the boil is
running and it's set to 20 and that'll
be 20 degrees in 30 minutes
there's what it says just above by again
you can see on
obviously one of the main features in
the nest is being it controlled it with
a phone with an app this is the nest app
heat set at 18 it's actually at 19
degrees now and you can adjust that
using the arrows or you can pull it
around like that
tend to use the arrows more accurate
this is ten minutes on now and we love
it we both got it installed on our phone
and so we can both bottle through it as
we see fit
there we are last on orange now as has
that it will be 20 and a half degrees in
35 minutes poured into that it's learned
that over the time that how long it
takes to heat up the room and everything
it is a clever bit of kit with neatened
up the install a bit the socket there
and a wire there just until we decorate
and then we might put it on the wall
overall and really good better kit and I
can't recommend getting one enough it
really is brilliant it's not just a toy
it saved us a lot of money as well
because we didn't even have a thermostat
before
