the driver we all want to hit the big
stick we all want to hit that pull-up
going long and straight off the tee well
today we're talking about the driver and
specifically we're talking about the
driver for the beginner golfers out
there all the govern you to the game
we're going to talk about some concepts
and some ideas which are going to help
you perform better with this club where
your abs on the golf course

I'll definitely take that on this par-5
right welcome to the first water and
welcome to the 17th hole and today we're
talking about the driver and we're doing
this specifically for all you beginner
golfers out there we're going to go
through a very very basic concept to
what we're looking to do with the golf
club
we've been explaining why this is a club
which is so difficult to use I'm just
get another ball ready so the driver is
that one club which as a beginner you
probably are looking forward to hitting
the most you're gonna see that one is
the the golf club which generates you
the most speed the most distance and
it's very often the club that people
really really want to get used to using
it's incredibly difficult to use this
golf club and we're going to talk in
this video very much about the first you
know kind of four to five feet of the
goal sync and then the first four to
five feet to the goal sync post impact
so kind of waist high to waist high and
we're talking very much about the shape
of the actual swing itself and we're
talking about the golf club clubface so
let me get myself set up to this golf
ball I'm getting a lie my golf club
straight down the middle of this par-5
17th and take my address position now
we're not talking in this video too much
about the address position turns where
the body is what we're talking a little
bit more about the golf club in its
relationship to the ball now because
this is the longest Club in the bag it's
the one where I'm going to be stood the
furthest from the golf ball the most
inside the golf ball what that means is
there are no straight lines in this go
swing the golf club is never ever moving
in a straight line the golf club is
never ever pointing in the same place
consistently so let's take this skull
Club and let's do this little example
that golf club is now pointing straight
down the fairway I'm just gonna hold my
right I'll and I was gonna rotate my
body away and we're gonna see what
happens to the club itself and the
clubface well as I rotate away to here
now you'll notice that the golf club
face is now pointing pretty much give or
take horizontally out in front of me
you'll also notice that the golf club
has worked very much on this arc to the
inside if
to rotate through as if I was going to
make contact and continue post a golf
ball again we can see how the golf club
is now pointing very much to the left of
me and the golf club has moved on this
arc so the two things that we have to
appreciate very very quickly with a
driver is the golf club is moving on an
arc around my body and the golf club
face is also opening and closing
relative to that arc what do we see
quite commonly well unfortunately we see
lots of beginners who are believing that
the golf club should move straight back
from the golf ball a straight line and
we said there are no straight lines
all we see golfers where they try to
keep the golf club pointing more towards
the golf ball a great way that you can
start to appreciate this is actually
just to use your hand and use your palm
as the clubface and your hand as the
club head so as I take my starting
position here my palm face is where I'm
trying to go and if I rotate back you
can see how my parma started to rotate
with my body absolutely I can control
that and do different things with it
this is where I start to get really
inconsistent with our driving so very
very simple drill take your palm in here
and just rotate and just notice what
that palm does and then also we go
through again my palm we started to
rotate notice how this movement is being
very much controlled with my upper body
and my legs
it's an arcing movement and the clubface
is always rotating so because of those
things you can start to see why it's
incredibly difficult to hit this golf
tee because the golf club is always
changing where it's pointing it's very
easy at the ball to the left or to the
right because we're working on this arc
we can have a golf club which is
traveling left of target or right of
targeting right of target I should say
at various points therefore it
incredibly difficult to be consistent
with a driver and especially if you're a
beginner but a great way to start using
the driver is to actually hit shots just
like we've done there with these really
mini swings so take my starting position
and all I'm going to do is I'm just
going to rotate back allow the club to
move more to the inside and the clubface
rotates open turn back let the club work
to the inside and the golf club rotate
back and I should be able to collect the
ball down at the bottom
and have it go pretty straight now
that's not gonna get you to fold the
golf course it's got about 30 yards it
leaves me a long second shot into this
hole but again it's really just trying
to grasp the concept of this arcing
motion with the clubface rotating we're
just looking to collect the golf ball at
the point where the golf club is
traveling momentarily toward we want the
ball to go and the clubface again
momentarily is pointing where we want
the ball to go if we can do those things
and we can also make a fairly center
contact we should be able to get that
ball toward that target in a fairly
consistent manner so all we've really
spoken about is waist high to waist high
obviously you can imagine the golf swing
ultimately would continue but really
that first part is so key for a beginner
to understand because we do see all
sorts of different kind of moves
different ideas different concepts and
really those concepts and those ideas
can be holding you back
from hitting this golf club consistently
out on the golf course so understand
that it's an arcing movement with a
clubface which is always rotating
because we are stood further from the
golf ball that exaggerates those
movements makes the driver possibly the
most difficult Club in the bag to use
however were those tips you should be
well on your way to hitting more
fairways when you're out on the golf
course right thank you very much for
watching I hope that helps you beginners
out there or even just you if you're
struggling with the driver you know let
me know in the comments box would love
