hey guys what's going on coach Justin
here from ultimate baseball training and
in today's video I wanted to show you
some of the best baseball hitting drills
that you can do by yourself trust me
I've been that before you want to get
better but maybe dad can't throw you BP
that day or you can't find a coach to go
to the field with you all your friends
are busier they don't want to get better
and you have that desire so what do you
do well today's video we're going to get
into some of the best drills that you
can do by yourself limited equipment so
without further ado let's just get right
into it
all right so the very first drill you're
not even gonna need a baseball bat for
this drill you can do this at home you
can do it in front of a mirror but all
you need baseball or maybe a tennis ball
if you're doing this drill inside and
this drill I like to call solo toss you
know Barry Bonds once said that if you
can catch a baseball then you can hit a
baseball because the baseball bat is
just an extension of your hands so all
we're going to do for this drill is
we're going to get into our hitting
position I'm a right-handed hitter so
I'm gonna hold the ball in my left hand
and similar to if I was hitting someone
fungo ground balls all I'm gonna do is
with my left hand I'm gonna go into my
load and my stride get some good rhythm
and timing I'm gonna throw this ball up
in the air and then with my right hand
I'm gonna come through and catch it and
try to get into a good hitting position
so this is what it looks like the best
thing about this drill is you can work
different locations so an inside pitch
obviously you're gonna hit that ball
just a little bit further out in front
so you can throw it a little bit more
inside and turn a little bit more you
can throw it right over the middle and
turn right there hit the ball pretty
much even with your front foot and then
you can even work on a way pitches as
well as well as off-speed so if this is
my fastball timing boom just like that
off-speed I can throw the ball just a
little bit higher and then keep my hands
back wait just a little split second
longer and then attack and go catch that
baseball but that's the first drill solo
toss now we're gonna get into some T
drills I think every single baseball
player needs to hit off of a tee
regardless of the level that you're at
some players don't like T work well I
got news for you Major League Baseball
players hit off the tee every single day
in practice and every single day before
they play a game in their their pregame
routine okay so the very first drill
we're gonna do with the tee I like to
call the walkthrough drill so I have a
ball on the tee here the ball is pretty
much about belt high right now and if I
were to just take regular swings off of
this tee I would probably line up in
about a position like this the ball is
pretty much even with my front instep
all right and that would allow me to get
into a pretty good hitting position
but the first drill is the walkthrough
drill so what we're gonna do is we're
gonna take a couple steps back this way
so I'm a few feet away from the baseball
right now and what this drill is going
to encourage us to do is develop some
good rhythm and timing and bat speed and
really piece everything together in our
swing so I love this drill it's a great
drill for getting loose so what I like
to do is point the bat pretty much
towards the pitcher okay from there the
footwork for a right-handed player is
gonna be right I'm planting my back foot
then left as I go into this left foot
that is my stride so my hands naturally
walk back I get into that good solid
launch position and then from there you
just fire and take a good swing we're
focusing on low line drive the next tee
drill that I really like to do is the
low tee drill so again if I were to hit
this ball just take normal swings off of
the tee I'd probably place it about belt
high even with my front foot about right
there now with the low tee drill we're
gonna place this ball on the lowest
setting possible and we're going to move
the tee forward without moving ourselves
forward okay so this ball is gonna be
pretty much a foot in front of our front
foot so it's way out there and what this
is going to encourage us to do is it's
going to encourage us to get our bat on
playing with the pitch and stay through
the zone a long time it's gonna provide
immediate feedback because you know if
we're used to just hitting belt high
pitches here and then immediately we
roll our our wrists like this and we
don't stay through the baseball a long
time we're gonna hit a lot of roll over
ground balls
to the shortstop okay so the low T drill
definitely incorporate this into your
next practice routine it's gonna help
you stay in the zone a longer time we're
looking for low line drives up the
middle or to the right side
the last tee drill you're going to
notice a similar trend okay if this is
my normal hitting position where I'd
usually line up to attack this baseball
again another drill focusing on staying
in the zone staying through the ball a
long time so we're gonna do I'm going to
scoot forward scoot closer to the
pitcher just a step or two so now that
baseball's pretty much even you know
with my belt buckle and what I'm gonna
do from there is I'm gonna actually open
up my feet just a little bit almost
towards I'd say shortstop in-between
shortstop and third-base okay so I'm
gonna open up my feet and we're pretty
much gonna eliminate our lower half in
this drill what we're working on is
we're gonna you know rock back we're not
gonna let our weight get over our
backside but we're gonna you know hit
against a strong back side so we're
gonna gather our weight back like this
our knob is going to go facing the
catcher and then from this position here
we're gonna take a regular swing we're
going to attack this baseball and we're
going to focus on driving at a low line
drive to the opposite field another
drill where you're gonna provide it's
going to provide instant feedback on
whether you stay through the baseball a
long time or if you cut yourself off
early
the next drill is launch position walks
now I see a lot of young hitters and
they do not get into a proper launch
position what I mean by launch position
is when you go into your load and your
stride towards the pitcher I mean
getting into an athletic position ready
to hit like this my hands naturally walk
away from my body I'm not artificially
pushing them back or anything like that
I get into an athletic position similar
to if I'm playing linebacker or defense
and basketball right my front foot opens
at pretty much a 45-degree angle the
knob of my bat is facing the catcher
this is a solid launch position I got a
great lat stretch here and that just
shows that my hips are beginning to
rotate and everything else is still
coiled back so I have a tremendous
amount of whip to then just throw
directly to the baseball but a lot of
players do not get into this position
all right so this drill is going to
encourage you to get into a proper
launch position and understand what
exactly that exactly that feels like so
what we're gonna do is we're going to
start pretty narrow our feet about
shoulder width apart handle of your bat
on your neck knob facing the catcher
right because when we get into that
launch position that's the way that we
want to be and then all you're gonna do
is you're gonna stride forward as you
stride forward you're gonna get a little
bit of flex in your knees so we're not
standing straight up as we stride we're
getting a little flexing our knees
getting into an athletic position and
we're allowing our hands to just
naturally walk away from our body so we
take a step and then we bring our right
foot in and then take another step and
bring our right foot so we're just
walking this is another great drill you
can do this at home you can do it in
front of a mirror but all you're doing
is getting into a launch position step
forward launch position step forward
launch position step forward I hope you
