Hey guys, Simon here from Top Tennis Training and today's video is all about
the single-handed backhand how to master your single-handed back end with three
steps step number one a good shoulder turn and a good unit turn as early as
possible as soon as you see it's coming to your back end so this means when you
see Wawrinka when you see Federer through this best single hand is in the
world Tommy Robredo these guys as soon as they see it's coming to the back end
they get sideways on so the right shoulder is turning if your right handed
player the left shoulder is turning if you are lefty they're getting sideways
on here and then they start the racket preparation for the first thing they do
when they see the balls coming to the back end they get sideways on they move
to the ball sideways a common mistake is moving to the ball like this then
turning and then trying to hit the ball you're going to be late like that first
thing you do balls come into your back hand get sideways on and move to the
glow of sideways on with a good shoulder turn a good unit time
you
step number two you've turned your shoulder your sideways on you need to
get the racket head higher than the grip level so in this position you'll see
lenka you'll see Federer you'll see Tommy Robredo you'll see Tommy house all
the best single handers in the world they'll get to this position where the
racket head is much higher than the grip because this will create leverage over
the ball leverage basically means force over the ball
Plus with this position you have more space to accelerate the racket head if
you just take it down like this firstly you have very little leverage over the
ball secondly you don't have much space to accelerate so from here getting a
powerful shot is pretty hard whereas from here you have an extra little bit
extra space to accelerate Plus you have more leverage over the ball force over
the ball so the racket is in this position shoulders turned top of the
racket pointing up to the sky more or less you can also be in this position
doesn't have to be all the way here you can be here and the non hitting hand the
left hand if you're right-handed is holding the throat of the racket helping
you to prepare and this hand the left hand for the right-handed players is
coming up to about shoulder height the elbows coming up to about here in that
take back so you're here and from here you're ready then the blaster ball to
hit a powerful single handed back end
you
and step number three you make contact in front of the body and a non-healing
hand this is your left hand if you're right-handed is going back and down to
counteract the right hand going forward so if you're a lefty this is your right
hand going back and down if you're a right-handed player you're
hitting the ball in front and this hand is going back most common mistake you
see amongst Club players because when they hit a single hander there'll be
like this and this left hand is dead even worse than just coming like this
they'll just do nothing with our left hand so this left hand if you watch
Federer's back and he does it better than anybody from here this left hand is
going back and down supporting the upper body counterbalancing what's going on
with the right hand so from here the left hands going back and down and his
chest is basically stretching left arms going back and down to balance the upper
body and to stop the shoulders from opening because basically this is all
too often this is too common this you want to stay sideways on after you hit
the shot and obviously the finish is way higher in the head level the more spin
you won the more you come up the back of the bone you finish higher the racket in
the hitting arm and the left arms going down to counterbalance
you
so quick recap on the single-handed backhand as soon as you see it's coming
step number one shoulder turn unit turn step number two good power position rack
ahead hide in the grip level not hitting hand holding the throat of the racket
and step number three using the left hand if you're right-handed player going
back and down for the non hitting hand going back and down to counterbalance
the right hand going forward the hitting hand going forward and if you liked this
