hey everyone welcome to this video my
name is Adriana and I'm a pharmacist and
I specialize in over-the-counter
treatments in today's video I'm gonna
talk about something that no one likes
to talk about its what to do when you
have a pimple down there
so I wanted to make this video because
Valentine's Day is a day when you know
we like to go on a date with our husband
or wife and we may you know have a
little fun in the bed and what's more
embarrassing than having a pimple down
in your genital area so today I'm gonna
talk about what causes a boil how to
prevent them and how to treat them so if
you're interested keep on watching so
let's get right into it so first things
first let's talk about exactly what a
boil is so when I'm referring to a
genital boil I'm referring to a pimple
which is not on the genital area but
it'll be on your inner thigh between
your groin and your inner thigh not
actually like on the vagina not on the
lip portion but in that middle area the
reason why we form boils in this area is
because there's a lot of friction and
sweating that occurs in this area so
what is a boil a boil is a skin
infection either of the hair follicle or
of the oil glands so this is why it
turns into a very hard painful red
pimple like structure and over time it
will fill with pus so the good news is
that boils can be treated with simple at
home remedy now let's talk about what
causes a boil
naturally on our skin we have bacteria
that live there and they don't bother us
the most common being Staphylococcus or
we call them staph so usually the staph
bacteria that live on our skin will have
an opportunity to go and infect
they're the the oil glands or the hair
follicle this might be from shaving from
Nick's or from any type of skin
irritation there are also certain health
conditions that make you more prone to
developing a boil this might be diabetes
a weakened immune system hygiene any
chemical irritants that you may apply
there these all can kind of make us more
susceptible to developing a boil but the
good thing is it's completely normal and
it's easily treatable
so where do boils form boils don't only
form in the genital area they can form
anywhere in the body like your armpits
your thighs your butt but typically they
form in areas that have a lot of
friction and often sweat a lot so how do
you know if it's a boil so generally a
boil starts off as a hard painful lump
which may be red and it's about a half
an inch in size then it starts
progressing into a larger bump that gets
a little bit softer then as it gets
larger and soft you start forming pus on
the inside and you may develop a
whitehead now just as a precaution there
may be times when you think it's a boil
but it's not and then you have to seek
medical attention so like I was saying
before staph is a bacteria that is known
for causing the boils but there's also
something very serious called MRSA which
will look just like a boil so if you
have mersa this requires medical
attention
it requires drainage by a doctor and it
will require antibiotics so when should
you see a doctor you should see a doctor
if you develop a fever if you have
swollen lymph nodes if you have a
chronic medical condition if you have
multiple boils surrounded by the main
boil severe pain if you feel ill or
fatigued or if you have a fever so as a
rule of thumb I like to say if you have
a boil and there's an absolutely no
improvement in about two to three days
then it's possible that it could be MRSA
and you'll
definitely want to see a doctor so now
let's get into the fun part how to treat
a boil so how to treat a boil is very
very simple the most important thing
that I want to stress is do not attempt
to pop the pimple do not try to pop the
boil it will drain on its own as long as
you follow these certain steps step one
the first thing you need which everyone
should have in their house is a
washcloth okay so you'll take a
washcloth and you'll soak it in warm
water drain it out and then you'll apply
it to that boil for about twenty minutes
now the warmth is going to increase the
blood flow and the white blood cells to
that area and help your body start
making it form a head so that it can
start to drain so you want to do this
about three to four times a day in order
for it to be effective your boil will
start to drain in about three days to
about a week if you do repeated soaking
so step two once your boil starts to
drain what you want to do is you want to
start cleaning it with an antiseptic
soap you can use any anti septic stove
of your choice but what I recommend is
the hibiclens this is typically what you
will use for surgery or before surgery
to clean your body but it actually is a
really good choice of anti septic soap
when you're dealing with a boil so I
would recommend buying a bottle of these
this is probably like seven or eight
dollars at your local drugstore and
every time you shower or every time you
clean it which should be at least three
to four times a day you might want to
scrub with this and this will help aid
in keeping it clean in addition to doing
that what you can do is once your boil
is already drained you can apply an
antibiotic ointment like neosporin to
the area and I like to recommend to keep
it covered with some type of bandage so
each time you clean it with the anti
peptic soap you apply the neosporin and
then keep it covered with a band-aid so
you pretty much want to follow this same
cycle at least two to three times a day
do the warm soap compresses clean it
with the antiseptic soap apply neosporin
pointment or cream or any antibiotic
ointment of your choice and keep it
covered with a bandage now the main
thing here is do not pop it do not drain
it do not stick a needle in it avoid
that urge to do it which is so hard
because I've experienced these before
it's so hard to do but you're only gonna
make it worse in addition to that yes I
know some of you are gonna ask if there
are any natural methods that you can use
to help with a boil and the answer is
yes so another very effective method at
getting rid of a boil is using tea tree
oil so tea tree oil has antiseptic and
antimicrobial properties so it can be
very effective in helping to heal your
boil so usually I recommend with tea
tree oil it's very powerful and can burn
your skin so what you want to do is make
sure you dilute the tea tree oil with
some coconut oil you can also dilute it
with olive oil as well which you
probably have in your pantry so you want
to dilute it with the coconut oil and
then apply it to your boil so another
natural option is to use castor oil
castor oil has natural anti-inflammatory
properties so theoretically it can help
reduce the inflammation of your boil no
dilutions
so if you're trying to get into the
routine of the remedy I would recommend
applying the castor oil instead of the
antibiotic ointment and then covering it
same with the tea tree oil so another
option to use as far as drawing up the
head of the boil is if the mall salve
now it
the mall has been around for a very long
time it was mmm it was known way back in
the day as black salve so you can use
this in addition to your warm compresses
to help draw up that head to the boil so
I would recommend if you need a little
boost if you're really trying to get rid
of it quickly after your compresses
apply the ixom all soft to your boil and
keep it covered
once your boil drains you no longer
should be using the eczema once your
boil starts to drain continue to use the
compresses but at this point either use
the tea tree oil diluted or castor oil
or an antibiotic ointment keep it
covered and then over time this will
heal if it's been 2 to 3 days and you're
not noticing any improvements or your
boil gets worse you need to seek medical
attention right away because this could
be mersa or a serious infection all
right so let's talk about how to prevent
boils so first um if you have a family
member who has a boil make sure that
you're not in really direct contact with
them you frequently wash your hands make
sure you wash all bedding towels do not
share towels just to help just to
prevent cross-contamination also if
you're prone to getting boils it's
important to wash that area with a
strong antibacterial soap to help
prevent it if the main causes for a boil
is an opportunity so shaving down there
can cause Nicks or skin irritation and
this will give an opportunity for the
bacteria to go ahead and infect that
area what's worked for me about 3 years
ago I got laser hair removal and I have
not had a boil sense so this really
helps prevent me from ever getting these
boils I know this isn't something that
everyone has the option to do so I would
recommend if you don't have to shave
down there don't shave but if you do
make sure you
change your razor frequently so let's
say about two to three uses only do not
share razors with anyone and make sure
to practice good hygiene when you're
shaving so make sure when you shave
using an antibacterial soap or
antiseptics soap all right well it was
nice chatting with you oh thank you so
much for watching this video if you have
any other questions you know that I will
definitely answer as soon as I get a
chance so comment below and don't be
scared to ask a question because a lot
of times someone else will be able to
answer that question or someone else
will have that same question and this
might help you know it might help answer
someone's question so with that being
said I hope you guys have a great
Valentine's Day and thank you so much
