- Welcome to Tomahawk DIY.
Today we're gonna take a look
at finding the center of a circle.
So in this case,
I need to drill a hole right through the middle of this,
and I wanna make sure it's balanced just right.
You can use this really for any circle
that you need to find the center point on.
It's pretty straightforward,
simple geometry.
So the first thing you wanna do is
take and draw three chords.
Now a chord on a circle
is a line that passes through two edges of the circle,
and you want each of these chords to be the same length.
So on this particular one,
I'm going to measure out eight inches.
(birds chirping)
And then I'm going to draw a mark
at the four inch point.
So right in the middle of the chord.
Now I'll repeat that for the other three chords.
Alright, we've got our three chords,
each with a midpoint.
They're all identically sized,
and now we're going to take a square.
In this case, this literally is a square.
You could also use anything else
that you know is a nice 90 degree angle.
Line it up at the midpoint,
and then you wanna draw a line right through
where the center should be.
Repeat that on the other two sides.
So, here we have our three chords of equal length
with the midpoint identified,
and at a 90 degree angle,
lines drawn through the middle,
and that gives us the center of our circle.
