lots of mummies find one of the nicest
ways to feed their baby is by sitting in
a slightly recumbent position
you need to be at a little bit of an
angle laid back
so you know you're slouching slightly on
the settee
or in the chair or wherever you are now
the easiest way to do that is having a
nipple that's actually sticking out
really well for the baby but for lots of
mummies that's not the case
so if you're one of these ladies which
rather than being a dolly carton you
have a slight bit of droop after the
baby's going
the easiest thing you do is get yourself
a rolled up nappy or a muslin
undo your bra get your bra and just roll
this
tight into the bra cup so that we can
literally raise the nipple from being
there
to up there so the nipple is really
sticking out so the baby can't miss it
now if your nipples are quite flat
another little trick is to just
get the nipple between your finger and
your thumb and just roll the nipple out
slightly so the nipple sticks out and
that way baby can't miss the target
now we've got everything organized for
baby so the next thing we're going to do
is get baby to use its natural instinct
now we know that all babies are born
with a walking
instinct and that's why they can move
around to get onto the breast
so all you have to do is put baby just
by the breast
and you'll watch the baby the baby will
use its chin just to stroke the
stroke its way to the nipple and they
literally do this little thing like this
it's lovely to watch
and they find the nipple and then
there's a wee bit of a pause
and then you'll find the baby throws its
head back
it thinks about it it does its maths and
then push
on it goes and you see how baby when
baby later is naturally you've got more
of the areola
available above the top lip they've
opened their mouths completely to go on
the breast
and your next thing you think about as a
mum is how can i keep baby in the same
place so what you do is you bring the
arm that's spare
bring it up around the head and then
hold the baby's bottom
and then you everything is in place and
it works out beautifully and then you've
got one side of your body free
to use the remote control or have a
drink and all babies like that latch
because they naturally create a deep
latch
they can use both of their eyes to see
mummy mummy can talk to baby
and it's a more relaxed position for
everybody and you've still got the same
rules the baby's head
shoulders and bottom are all in a nice
straight line his head's
free to move and the latch is perfect
