hi welcome to found the animals puppy
kitten bottle-feeding 101 I am joined
today by this tiny little two three week
old puppy that we found at the harbor
shelter in Los Angeles and I'm going to
show you how to bottle feed a puppy
should you ever find yourself in a
fostering situation so as I mentioned
that this guy is about two weeks old
puppies and/or kittens this young need
to be filled up that multiple times
throughout the day
that's probably every three hours so
you're looking at eight feedings per day
you want to feed your puppy or kitten
about 35 milliliters per
three-and-a-half ounces of body weight
so what you're going to need to get
started is of course a bottle which you
can find in any pet store plus you're
going to need a milk substitute such as
kmr if you do get kmr you can get it
either in a powder format or you can get
it in a liquid format so if you do get
the powder you just mix it with water
and you want to make sure that you use
any unused container store that in the
freezer and then store any pre-mixed kmr
in your refrigerator until you use it so
when you're ready to start bottle
feeding you want to warm up the milk to
about 99 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit and
then you want to get your puppy or
kitten either facing forward or you can
scruff and flip them over onto their
back just make sure they're at about a
45 degree angle so as to avoid choking
now I fed this guy already he likes to
eat like this so you're going to tip the
bottle back put it in this mouth and he
should start sucking right away you may
also want to apply some pressure to the
bottle to help him along it and get a
little bit extra in there now your puppy
or kitten is going to eat just as much
as they're going to eat and they will
let you know by spitting the bottle out
when they're finished again you want a
good angle so that puppy can't show
make sure that their head is tilted
slightly back and again he's pretty much
finished he told me that he's done this
little guy had about 10 milliliters and
that's a great amount for his afternoon
feeding if you have any questions be
sure to call us or email us info it
