hello everybody my name is Ian Lamont I
am the author of the book lean media as
well as Lee Media video channel which
talks about all kinds of Amazon programs
and publishing programs available at Lee
Media org today I'm going to be talking
about changing a description of one of
your books in Amazon KDP that's Kindle
direct publishing it's the program for
publishers and self-published authors to
publish both Kindle books as well as
paperback on-demand books using Amazon's
platform the books are made available in
amazon.com
here's how to change a description so
you log into your KDP account KDP
amazon.com I'm assuming you have some
books that are already available for
sale you should come to this page this
is the dashboard if not click on
bookshelf and you should see this so
what I'm going to do is I'm gonna change
a description of one of my books I'm not
gonna make a big change but it's just
useful for you to understand how it
works so here it's a Kindle book

click on the three dots right here to
the right and then select edit ebook
details so it's churning it's gonna jet
so it's going to show me the metadata
fields I have a whole bunch of them for
this particular book every book should
should look kind of like this you'll see

content those are the files used for
your book and Kindle eBook pricing
there's actually a couple ways to do
different things but I'm just going to
show you the basic way to change your
description so first of all you can
change your title and subtitle
however there's all kinds of
restrictions on that it has to match
what the actual image file looks like so
do not mess around with this unless you
really know what you're doing or unless
you've already changed that particular
those particular cover files Series
information author information so here's
the description field and it's actually
pretty big so I have all this
description text and let's say that I
wanted to change the description so
right now
says updated with new information in a
new look and these tags here the beat
the closing B tag in the opening B tag
that tells Amazon to make that text bold
let's say that I want to get rid of that
because I updated this like a year and a
half ago so I no longer need that
message what I could do is I could just
delete that in fact I'm gonna do that
right now other people they will make
more substantial changes to their
particular descriptions if you want you
can try editing them in here like right
in the description field but if you have
a big description that first of all it
might take a long time secondly you
can't really see what you're doing so
what I usually recommend doing if you're
going to be making a big change or to
description you actually copy it so I've
just basically selected all if you're
using Windows that would be ctrl a if
you're using a Mac that's command a then
I copy the text use a Windows ctrl C
work for Mac command C these are
keyboard shortcuts you can also go up
here and do it so I'm going to copy that
text edit copy and then paste it into
another program like a text editor so
I'm going to bring that up here so I
just pasted that into a text editor this
is the description as it stands right
now so let's say I wanted to make some
changes it's easier to see it this way i
R so let's say I want to change this
bullet point IRA 401k and 403 B
retirement accounts it's a small change
other people they may want to make a
complete change to how their description
looks if that's the case you may want to
spend quite a bit of time changing these
changing these things around and maybe
actually copy at first spend as much
time as you need and then log in later
on to actually update it so I've just
made a couple minor changes here so I'm
gonna do the same thing again edit copy
and then go back to Amazon KDP here's
the field it's gonna delete what's in
there the description I'm gonna delete
what's in there now and then I going to
go
paced so--that's pasting in the new text
description that I just did so you can
see here's here's the change so I
changed that line it just used to be IRA
and 401k I added 403b which is another
type of retirement account and then also
there was a little bit of text up here
before they said updated I got rid of
that as well
okay I made that change can also start
to change the keywords and categories
and things like that but this is just
about the description once I change the
description go to the bottom of the page
save and continue you'll be brought to
the content page that is if you let's
say they mate if you want to you can
upload a new ebook manuscript that would
be a an ePub file I could upload a new
cover I'm not gonna do that
save and continue preparing your files
sometimes it takes a long time but
basically actually let's let's not hang
on this page too long
basically what its gonna do it you have
to go through all the steps again for
each type of metadata the next page
would be pricing confirm all that and
then hit submit
and then you're all done for more
