what's up guys tell anyone here and
today we're talking about how you can
edit 4k on a slow computer so with
phones drawings and everything short of
your refrigerator shooting in 4k
nowadays it's relatively common you know
what let me check on that you never know
so it looks like that has not been done
yet but anyways with everything capable
of shooting 4k nowadays it's relatively
common for you to get that nice crisp
looking footage and then you bring it
back get into Premiere Pro and you start
editing and going through it and just
keeps lagging lagging you see just like
that it's very frustrating so today I'm
gonna show you way around that so you
can edit your little 4k parts out well
the play
[Applause]
so that was just a little sequence that
I filmed on my iPhone in 4k for this
demonstration so the first thing that
we're going to want to do is make a
folder and we're gonna want to mean it
proxies so a proxy is basically a dumbed
down version of that original file so if
we have a 4k file we're gonna make a
proxy and it's going to be a like a
lower resolution file of our main file
and we're gonna do the edits to it and
then it's going to copy that it's back
onto the 4k file
pretty simple you might ask how we do
such a thing and that's a good question
so first we have to hop into Premiere
Pro we're gonna go to file new and go to
new project name whatever you want we're
going to name this how to edit in 4k
okay so just find the location in the
farms that we're gonna want to use
mine's under b-roll so now we're gonna
go down to ingest settings when you go
to ingest settings you're gonna want to
click ingest and then go to this
drop-down menu and go to create proxies
from there we're gonna go to preset and
you're gonna see a lot of different
options
now this can work if your computer is
even lagging on 1080p you can dumb it
down to 720 or even 540 if you need to
for this demonstration I'm just going to
go to 720 and we're using the h.264
codec and then go down to choose
location and we're just going to go to
our proxy file that we made a second ago
select that and click OK
so now that brings us to our main
editing screen which most you guys are
familiar with anyways and what you do is
we're going to go up here to file import
and I'm gonna import this set of clips
that I had and as soon as you import
those clips Adobe Media encoder will
automatically open and it will start
making those lower resolution files now
this is gonna take some time trust me
it's worth the time it's better than
just sitting there lagging through all
that stuff it just makes it quick easy
and smooth so you know
we start wait for that depending on how
big file we're using if you're doing
this for 1080p stuff it might not be
that hard or that mom 4k stuff obviously
it's gonna take a little longer I'm
trying to jab and talk to see if that's
gonna do some time I'll just come back
to it so we got those done what we're
gonna do now is hop back into Premiere
Pro and we're gonna drag those files
onto our timeline so as you can see here
it's still lagging you know this choppy
and it's very hard to edit and you're
probably wondering hey I thought you
just fix this issue I did but there's
one more button that we have to do if
you go over here I already have it but
I'm sure you guys would find it go over
here to the right-hand side and you see
this little plus symbol you will click
it and right here the toggle proxies
button you click this and click OK and
then we'll add that to your toolbar now
when you click it it's gonna be
highlighted blue whenever this is
highlighted blue we're working with the
dumbed down versions of our files so
whenever that's blue or 4k footage or
whatever you may have been working with
is going to be you know our 720 footage
and so we're going to do all of our
edits to it and then when you export
it's going to be copied over to their
original files
so as you can see if we play it back now
no choppy you know lag we can scroll
through do whatever you want so after
that it's pretty simple you just do the
usual edits you would as if you're
working with 4k file the only exception
to this role that I found is when you're
color grading you might want to take the
toggle proxies button off so you need
the most accurate accurate accurate
representation of your footage and you
can color grid it the correct way and
make sure everything is all legit there
might be a few more exceptions but the
majority of editing that I did I didn't
have to turn that button off I could
just go all the way through so that's
been sweet
again you can use this with 1080p if
your computer slow and even 1080p lag
some time on mine you can do the same
thing so it's pretty simple because a
lot of us don't have that big powerhouse
puter yeah so I hope this video helped
do some sort of way when I figured out
you can do this just do so much stuff
you know with drone footage things like
that but if you like this video smash
that like button as they say if we new
here I would be honored if you would
subscribe to my channel and as always
set goals dare to fail and always be a
dream chaser it's in the next video
