hey it's Patrick here from the
GarageBand guide.com in this video I'm
revisiting GarageBand 10 drama track to
find out what it is how it works and how
you can bend it to your will
GarageBand tens drama track is pretty
amazing it allows you to select from a
number of preset and ROM kits and then
have them played for you by your very
own virtual drummer so let's dive right
in here
to add a drummer track to your project
click the add track icon here and select
drummer from the menu
[Music]
garage bands will add 16 bars of drum
origins to your project automatically
now your default virtual drummer is
called Kyle Kyle plays straightforward
rock beats on a natural versatile kit so
there are a large selection of other
drummers available but to get access to
them you'll need to download GarageBand
extra content this also includes 1500
loops and a lot of extra instrument
sounds so I definitely recommend
grabbing it if you haven't already you
can see from this menu here you're able
to select from multiple genres and for
each genre there are different drummers
to choose from we'll stick with Kyle for
now though as he's the one drummer that
everyone has access to Kyle plays the
SoCal kick by default you can select
different kits for him to play in the
library pandal the pattern is playing
doesn't change when you do this just the
sound of the drums that are being played
[Music]
[Music]
if we take a closer look at the editor
window you can see there are a number of
different preset patterns to choose from
these presets will drastically change
the drum pattern your drummer will play
each drummer has their own specific set
of presets to choose from as well so if
I play Kyle's default preset pattern
[Music]
then change to say crash the party you
can see the drummer track waveform
change as a different pattern is loaded
up and played back you can fine-tune
your selected pattern using the other
controls in the editor window starting
with the X Y pad it's pretty intuitive
to use actually if I drag the part
between load and simple the drummer
pattern will change to reflect that if I
drag the puc van to between soft and
complex you'll see the pattern will
change dramatically to mimic that you
don't have to work in such broad strokes
in your own projects will even movingly
put a little results at a change in the
drummer's pattern so you really have a
lot of control here in the box on the
right of the editor window you have the
option to add three different percussion
instruments to your beat
that come with three rhythm variations
to choose from
now these percussion options will change
depending on the type of drummer you
have selected so as our rocky type
drummer who plays a natural live
sounding kit Kyle has a tambourine a
shaker and handclaps available
you
[Music]
whereas Magnus who plays the big room
electronic drum kit has other more
electoral focused options available
[Music]
so over here you can highlight or
deselect specific parts of the drum kit
to have Kyle add or remove them from the
current pattern he's playing
[Music]
[Music]
so again you've got a lot of control
here you have multiple options for how
the hi-hats will be played
[Music]
[Music]
and you have even more options available
for how the kick and snare will be
played
[Music]
[Music]
just like with the percussion
instruments drummers and other genres
may have other customization options
here depending on the kit they play
[Music]
you
[Music]
you
[Music]
increasing and decreasing the value and
the fill wheel here will have your
drummer add more or less elaborate fancy
stuff to the pattern they are playing
[Music]
the swing wheel will loosen up the
timing of your drummer's performance
ranging from our subtle laid-back effect
[Music]
to fool on swing gasm finally use the
lock icons next to the fill and swing
wheels to keep those settings saved if
you decide to switch drummers
so if we switch over to smart controls
you have a variety of different knobs
here that allow you to adjust the volume
of separate parts of your drummer's kit
I can give the kick drum a bit of a
boost for a little added oomph
Orbital's handclaps I added earlier
although adjusting the drummer tracks
master volume on the track header
[Music]
[Music]
there's a basic compression control here
if you want to squash a rhythm track
plus tone and room controls that let you
adjust the feel of how your drummer
track sounds there you have it that
everything you need to know to get
started with GarageBand tends drummer
track there's so much potential to
create unique and awesome sounding
rhythm sections with the drummer track
and the possibilities here really are
practically endless so jump in and get
experimenting
