welcome I need to drill a hole in some
brick at my house at two and a half inch
hole to run some venting Pike and in
this video I'm going to be checking out
this this cheap a hand for all 65
millimeter SDS bit so I got this on
Amazon I'll put a like the description
of this and if you buy one using that
like it helps me out a little bit it
doesn't cost you anything extra so this
is a carbide tip hole saw and I have not
opened this yet
so I'm taking a look at it for the first
time so this has these little carbide
teeth on it and this is the I don't we
call this hard work maybe and this has
an SDS connection on it and then we have
the pilot bit there I think this is a
quarter-inch that looks a little bigger
than quarter-inch
there's the pilot drill and have a lock
washer and a set screw so this is
covered in oil so I don't know how well
this is gonna work I haven't used it yet
so that's what we're gonna find out in
this video the ideal thing with this is
I think for most people would be is if
you want to just drill a hole and if
you're drilling a hundred holes then you
can spend the money on an expensive say
diamond bit or whatever but if you just
want to do one or two holes you really
don't want to spend a ton of money on a
bit so I think this is that's who this
is marketed towards his people who just
have a few holes to drill so this pilot
bit here is going to go in the middle
like so
and then it has a lock washer here which
you watch other guys on YouTube they'll
say these don't even work so I don't
know I'm gonna use it anyway because
maybe the spacing of the nut needs it
and there's a little flat on that pilot
bit if you didn't see so so this isn't
going to be a comprehensive video on
drilling holes I'll probably talk about
some different things I'm doing but you
know if you're doing it yourself you
need to you know consider all the safety
things you need to deal with on your own
I'm going to be drilling it with this
it's like a really old healthy hammer
drill and this will go in the Chuck like
so so there we have it so that's kind of
long but hopefully it'll work because
actually this is a little bit below
ground so I'm have to dig a little
channel in the dirt for this to fit so
first thing I'm going to do is drill a
hole through the brick and then it's my
I think the rim joist and that way I'll
know where it comes through on the
inside of my house and then I'll start
drooling with this okay so I'm outside
where I need to drill the hole and it's
kind of windy out so I apologize for any
wind noise with this so the first thing
I'm going to do is just use a punch and
a drilling hammer to kind of hopefully
mark the center I don't know how well
this is gonna work but next I'm going to
drill a 3/8 inch hole and this is like a
healthy drill bit and I'll drill that
through and then I'm going to use a 3/8
inch just regular drill bit to drill
through the a joist
okay I think I'm all the way through so
now I'm gonna drill through with this
other bit I may not I'm gonna keep going
with this okay so it's just through the
first layer of the brick okay so now I'm
gonna go down into the basement and make
sure that drilling in the right spot
okay so I measured correctly some spot
on in the right place I was able to
measure from the outside and transfer
the measurements to the inside but
otherwise I probably would have started
on the inside and saw where came out on
the outside okay so now I have the drill
here first thing I'm going to do is use
this bit to score the outside of where
the holes gonna be
next I'm going to use this quarter inch
bit and I'm going to draw around the
perimeter of the hole to create like
little relief holes to make it easier
for the whole drill okay so now I have a
hole saw Chuck back up and I'ma see how
this drills a hole I drilled around nine
holes around this
okay so it looks like I got all the way
through you summer to start grabbing one
of the times there was a piece that got
caught in there and that was causing it
to grab go down here and we'll look at
the hole you can't see in there very
well but it's all the way through it
looks pretty smooth too so I'm gonna go
down to my shop and we'll take a look at
this bit and see what the teeth look
like on it okay so I'm back down in my
shop look at the teeth on this
hopefully it'll focus
I gotta say they all look pretty good
and this is very thick metal here which
I like because this is warm but it's not
super super hot so it's probably
absorbing a lot of that heat
yeah the shaft is just barely warm and
this I mean I could grab that my hand
and hold it even like when I brought it
down here I mean I could have held it it
wasn't even I don't know if it was even
that uncomfortable so last time I
drilled a hole I used this thing which
is like a little steel with carbide on
it this worked
it was superior to this thing this thing
took forever and I had to drill two
holes so it was awful one of the issues
with this is I was drilling you know pit
I dug below ground and that made it kind
of hard to hold the drill if you were
doing this you know above-grade where he
had a better angle to hold the drill
straight I think it'd be a little easier
on the other hand when it did catch the
drill would kind of hit the ground
instead of twisting my arm off so that
was kind of a nice aspect of it and I'm
using a really old hammer drill so a new
orleans might have electronic controls
on it that kind of protect your arm I
don't really know I'm not familiar with
them so so now that that's done I'm
going to finish off the hole here with a
wood bit probably from the inside but
maybe outside I don't know I'll figure
that out and then I'll be done I'll be
able to run my pipe so so this video was
mostly just you know checking this thing
out and it seemed to work pretty good I
did drill those holes ahead of time
around the perimeter I don't know how it
would have worked without those holes
but I always like to do that
it's super fast to drill those relief
holes I like to drill as many as I can
get in quickly and I'd say this is a
thumbs up on this drill bit for you know
just drill at least one hole or two
which an a lot of people who are gonna
buy these are probably don't wanna drill
one or two holes and it's just you know
cheaper to buy than it is to rent or
hire someone so if you have any
questions please leave them in the
comments if you like this video please

my channel would appreciate if you could
do that and thanks for watching
next time goodbye
