you
this is a tutorial for the three-card
Monte routine I did in another video
there's several different routines but
the basic concept is the same in this
particular routine is one of the first
magic tricks I ever bought in the early
70s it was a packet trick called color
Monte I think I paid for that same trick
several times because I'd always leave
it in my pocket and then get run through
wash so I just use regular cards now
there's another routine called this and
that card it's pretty much the same
routine taken from color Monte with a
different storyline so by popular demand
here's the routine real quick and then
the tutorial I was showing someone
three-card Monte I have three cards the
first card is a joker the second card is
a joker the third card is an ace if you
can tell me where the ace is I'll give
you a dollar if you're wrong you owe me
a dollar
the ace is on the top if I place it on
the bottom where is the ace you said
it's on the bottom wrong you owe me a
dollar try again you said it's on the
top wrong you owe me a dollar
they said it's in the middle wrong you
owe me a dollar wait a minute you don't
even have an ace wrong you owe me a
dollar you're not doing so well so why
don't you tell me where a joker is
instead he said sure ones on the top
wrong you owe me a dollar it's got to be
one in the middle wrong you owe me a
dollar wait a minute you're using more
than three cards one two three
wrong you owe me seven dollars tell you
what we'll do it double or nothing I'll
show you these two cards if you can tell
me what this card is you don't owe me
anything if you're wrong you owe me $14
now they never get
the great thing about this trick is that
you can use three ordinary cards there's
no extra hidden cards when you're done
with the trick
the spectators can examine them it's
just three normal cards I usually pick a
joker because it's more believable those
two jokers or you can use a guaranteed
card an ace and then you know something
bright and colorful to show at the end
after you've chosen the cards you're
going to use this is the order that you
put them in this is the card you're
going to hide till the end this is the
card you're going to show twice and I
suggest using a joker or you can use a
blank card it's more believable that you
have two of them because most people
don't have this many packs of cards and
then the third card this is going to be
the money card this is the order this
card goes underneath this card goes on
the top so when you turn it over the
first card is the hidden card the second
card is the double card and that's the
money card that's your order there's two
moves that you need to learn I'm going
to go through both moves and then I'll
go through the routine the first move is
a double lift performing a double lift
using only three cards is one of the
easiest double lifts you can ever do put
pressure with between your finger here
and your thumb and you merely squeeze
the first two cards over putting
pressure here
so you have a single card here and
you've pushed two cards over push it
over now I see a lot of people they'll
grab it and flip it in they're squeezing
here trying to hold the cards together
and then they'll turn it over and it
looks so fake push it over
and just grab it and flip it over just
be casual about it flip it over again
flip it over catch it let it rest
you got borders around here so even if
the NED shows slightly nobody's going to
see it and what you're trying to do is
make this look like this that's a single
lift this is a double lift the only
difference is where you're applying
pressure for a single lift you're going
to push the card but you're going to put
pressure here and with your thumb so
that you're retaining two cards here and
you're pushing a single card so that's
where the pressure is here right there
and you push the single card note try to
imitate the same thing doing a single
lift as you do a double lift so the
single lift looks like this and the
double lift is like this you want them
both to look the same practice going
back and forth between the two you see
we have that on the top and that's that
so do a single lift flip it over single
lift flip it over double lift flip it
over double lift flip it over practice
those back and forth also placing a card
on the bottom using a single and double
lift single lift hold the card grip it
like this so you can slide it underneath
like that let's put it back to keep the
order so you can put a single card under
like that you want that to look the same
as putting two cards which is the double
lift and putting two cards on the bottom
the double lift enables you to show the
second card as if it's on the top and
it's the second card down when you do a
double lift the next move you're going
to need to learn I call it a top slide
you're going to show the bottom card as
the top card
hold the deck like this with your index
finger grip grip the three cards so
you're holding them pretty good with
your hand like this take your index
finger and slide the first card down
slightly just a little bit so you can
see right there now there's two cards
here and there's one card there now with
your middle finger and your index finger
put your index finger back on this card
and your middle finger on this one and
hold the bottom card which is the ace
hold the bottom card with your palm and
slide these two cards forward like that
so now what you've created I'll show you
in here you have the top and the bottom
card protruding and the middle card is
sticking up so it's like this slide down
and push up use this thumb on the back
as you push up to stop it
so it keeps the top card and the bottom
card flush at the bottom here pinch them
both together pull them out as one you
have the top and you have the bottom
card this is the middle card pull these
out as one drop them in place be casual
about it don't worry about it
when you're done showing the card do it
this is where you're at when you're done
showing the card do a double lift
here's how to do this routine using the
moves I just showed you I'm not going to
go through the story you can watch the
routine again to get that because I'm
going to be busy telling you what you're
supposed to be doing the first move is a
double lift you show the Joker double
lifted again do a single lift place the
five down do a single lift showing the
Joker again single lift place it down
and now you show your money card single
lift the money card over single lift now
do a double lift and place it on the
bottom show the Joker now when they're
going to guess it on the top again this
is when you do the slide so you're going
to pull these two cards out and show the
Joker again double lift it at this point
you're all set up to spread it and show
the Joker in the middle now that as the
story goes along then he says you don't
have an ace while the ace is all set up
on the bottom to show and when he
guesses where it's at again you do a
slide pull the ace over here
showing the ace do a double lift turning
it over setting you up for the ACE to be
in the middle now at this point he's
questioning how many cards you got so
you count them off one two three changes
the order for you and set you up so you
can lay that card down and lay that card
down and then you say you owe me 14
bucks here's a couple more tips as
you're practicing hours on end use
several groups of cards because after
you practice with the same three cards
after about 20 minutes or so the heat
from your hand gets into the cards and
they don't bend the same you can't do
double lifts is easy so after about 20
minutes switch to a fresh group and you
can alternate between different groups
also when you're storing these you know
you may have three cards that you use
all the time I use these plexiglass
pieces and I'll put three cards in there
stack it and I use these you can get
these in Home Depot or the dollar store
and you just clamp them in there leave
them overnight straighten them out
flattens them out you can put whole
entire decks in there
anyway thanks for watching
