hi guys today we are going to see how to
sign a PDF document with a
certificate-based digital signature in
Adobe Acrobat DC
first of all download and install Adobe
Acrobat DC from its original website for
free
to sign a document with a
certificate-based digital signature you
must obtain a digital ID a digital ID
contains information like your name
email address name of the organization
that issued it a serial number and an
expiration date
in Adobe Acrobat digital IDs are used to
certify documents or add digital
signature to documents
so follow the steps to add or create a
digital ID
click the edit menu
choose the preferences
signatures
on the right click more for identities
and trusted certificates
select digital IDs on the left and then
click the add ID button
if you already have a digital ID from
your organization you can select this
option to add the digital ID file
to show you I am going to create a new
cell sign digital ID
type your name Department organization
name and email address for your digital
ID
create a password for the protection of
your digital ID file
in the future you will need this
password to sign PDF documents using
this digital ID
the digital ID is created you will use
this certificate from this digital ID to
certify or sign a PDF
Step 2 customize the appearance of your
digital signature
before you begin this process you'll
need a digital image of your signature
follow the steps to create an image file
of your signature
open a PDF document in Adobe Acrobat
click sign icon
click add signature
now draw your signature with the mouse
pointer
place the signature in the blank space
and take a screenshot of it
save the signature as a JPEG or PNG file
then convert the image file into PDF as
Adobe Acrobat only supports the PDF
format
now let's customize the look of your
digital signature
click creation and appearance
create a new appearance
first give a title of your signature to
identify it later
import the image file you previously
created for your signature
then choose which information you want
to include in your signature it will
help others verify your signature you
can include your name date location the
reason for sign in distinguished name
which includes your email address
organization name Department
Etc
once you have successfully completed the
first and second steps you are ready to
digitally sign any PDF you want
so open the PDF document on which you
want to place your signature then follow
the steps
click the tools menu then click on the
certificate options
click the digitally signed option
using your mouse pointer draw the area
in the PDF where you would like your
signature to appear
choose your digital ID
select the appearance you created
earlier
when you sign a PDF using your digital
ID it's recommended to lock the document
to prevent any further changes
next enter the password of your digital
ID
finally click the sign button
remember once a PDF is signed using a
digital ID the PDF becomes read-only for
everyone including the signer so before
you digitally sign a PDF it's
recommended to always save the original
unsigned copy of the document
