Need up to 30 seconds to load.
everybody walk to today's video taste
video is going to be a mini-series on
fuel related problems I get so many
questions as people rough idling stall
and hesitation lien codes and I'm going
to go through a little short video
series trying to fuel related problems
dealing with certain parts there's a
million things that can go wrong even
though I'm making this video on fuel
pressure regulators there's still lots
of other variables involved that I may
not cover so let's get started but fuel
injected vehicles the vehicle should
start pretty much within the first few
cranks of turning the key over now if
your fuel objective Eagle is hesitant to
start regulator could be the issue
black smoke can be a number of things
but one of those things could also be
your fuel pressure regulator another
symptom is that your fuel pressure
regulator is bad if it has a vacuum hose
attached to it in some cases gas has
been sucked up through the vacuum hose
other symptoms include letting off the
accelerator backfiring and smell of
gasoline hesitation when you step on the
gas pedal now I'm gonna use my 2003 GT J
as a test dummy because it has a fuel
Schrader valve so here's two types of
fuel pressure testers this one I like
more this is actually ancient I've had
this one for about 15 years it has a
relief on the back just press a button
so that long tube drains out to fuel
this one here doesn't so when you undo
the Schrader valve hisses fuel up could
cause a fire if you're not careful have
to have a rag and II this is just more
convenient so the Jeep TJ should be
about 50 pounds this one fits we'll use
it
so when I started up I should be reading
about fifty pounds
so you can see the video clip my Jeep
runs right at the mark right about 50
psi
now one thing you gotta remember is that
with the GT J the vacuum line for the
fuel pressure regulator is on top of the
field pump so disconnecting that vacuum
line is not going to be an easy task and
not every vehicle has that Schrader
valve either let's look at how we do it
on my Ford f-150 because it doesn't have
that Schrader valve on the fuel rail
which I'm VIN uses B peak right now to
test a fuel pressure so use an Android
stereo with torque probe this is the
fuel pressure in my truck is about 38 39
psi now unfortunately my Jeep doesn't
have it because I said to feel pressure
regulator is on top of the fuel pump
which obviously is not accessible so if
your fuel pressure regulator is on the
fuel rail and it's vacuum operated you
could remove that vacuum line test that
vacuum line for vacuum and if you have a
vacuum tester you could hook up the
tester to the fuel pressure regulator
and then apply vacuum and see if it can
hold it so for those with the fuel
pressure regulator on your fuel rail
that's accessible when you remove the
vacuum line when it's running the filled
pressure should jump by boat I know
maybe up to 78 psi that's a good sign
that's working if your fuel pressure is
way higher than what the recommended
value is your fuel pressure regulator is
bad so if your fuel pressures low this
is where many things come into play you
could have bad injectors that allowing
too much fuel through you could have a
clogged fuel filter and you can also
have a weak fuel pump so let's go back
out to the Jeep we're gonna start it up
we know it runs right around 50 psi
[Applause]
we're gonna rev it up a little bit
and we're gonna see if the feel pressure
drops if we notice it drops five to 10
psi we know that there's a problem dirty
fuel filter our wheatfields pump now of
course in the 2003 gpj there is no fuel
filter there's a strainer in the fuel
pump and we got a brand new fuel pump in
there so I'm not suspecting there's
gonna be any difference
[Applause]
as he just seen in the video put some
load on the engine the fuel pressure
didn't even fluctuate at all maybe just
a quick blip everything is operating as
it should unfortunately between both of
my vehicles I was hoping I could have
showed you how to do the other test but
unfortunately I do not have the field
pressure regulator on the fuel rail so I
can't show you those tests I'm only able
to tell you about them and hopefully for
your situation you'll be able to
troubleshoot it and figure it out
anyways I'm gonna end the video here on
testing the fuel pressure regulator stay
tuned to this mini series as we do some
more testing on fuel related problems if
you guys any questions or comments post
them below and I want to thank you guys
for watching
