Need up to 30 seconds to load.
hello and welcome back to always the boy
now in today's video I'm going to be
showing you how to test the quo on a
Briggs and Stratton engine using a
multimeter and possibly if I could for
I'm 105 one laying around it also be an
SP 150 engine so it's gotta have a look
[Music]
okay right so first what we're gonna do
is we're going to start off with the
multimeter now as you know he's on this
multimeter at the moment I have two
black was less on it could because today
to show you quickly be positive one
broke so I had to spare black one laying
around anyway so anyway you put the
positive one into the cob and your
negative four there onto the right hand
side now what you should do is first of
all really what are you doing your
multimedia is turning it on I will put
the backlight on don't want that that's
it just so you can see it as well turn
it around to the continuity and if you
touch the two problems together you hear
that noise and then you know your
multimeter is working alright so first
of all we are going to test a
briggs-stratton little coil now this one
I got it was off a dumped look no lawn
mower and it didn't have the cap on it
but I'll kept the coil in other bits
just as Spears so what you do is is you
turn your dial
yep on to the 20k on the multimeter
which is just there if I lift it up you
can see it's on to 20k right anyway and
then what you do is next you get your
positive and you stick it on to the
water there or in say you want another
one and then you touch the pot the earth
bit on where you had your bolts for the
ground and that should go give us a
reading there that is 2 6 7 there Briggs
& Stratton coils they go between 25,000
and 5,000 homes albums so this one's is
getting down to there
I wish but it's this is a good oil even
though it is in a mess and if I do need
one for a burden see or could use it and
this was also is a another one another
Britain is threatened once again inside
it's a bit dirty but put it inside give
it a little stretch and also need to
touch the negative bit and there you've
got one there it's going to seven nine
so it's two thousand seven hundred and
ninety ohms or seventy six sixty ohms
also on these bridges and straightens
you ever a primary which is the kill
switch so you can test that as well so
once again you keep your promise it if
in the muscle vein and then just check
the with a kill switch goes and it
should give the same readings yeah
this one here
is also a British strand and this is off
a 5000 no this is off a yeah five
horsepower engine yeah
if I put the closet shift now it's got a
very good brass solid connector so if I
put in so idea like that like that and
then put the negative side one side here
now I'm not getting any movement on the
multimeter if you have a look so this
one here it shows you it's got no
resistance in it and he's dead
even though it's got a very good
connector but I will keep this connector
and I'll use it something else yeah I
did find an SP 150 engine yes sorry coil
now these ones you do the same thing
don't get you leads tank with that once
again you put there now these are
different what these ones go up to ten K
between five and ten K these was so I'm
putting it onto the earth
as you can see the multimeter I've got
five point nine eight so that goes to
show that is a good quill of a SV 150
engine so what I will do now in a minute
I'm going to get an old mower and with
the coil on the engine and I'll show you
how to do it there result well I didn't
have any lawn mowers hanging around
really that I could mess around with
we'll take the recall covers off so I
have this old engine sitting down to the
workbench it is in dirty condition it
does have the ignition coil on it so
first of all what you have to do is just
underneath there is the
Killswitch well so you have to take this
off pull it out the way that's it
anyway name first of all you get your
plug connector once again and then you
just scrape around the bottom of it or
holding it onto the side Cynthia and
then you take the other negative side
and we're getting a reading or 2.62 so
that goes to show that is also a good
quote so let's say you can check it
whilst it's still on the engine ok as
you saw that's the simple ways of
testing your coils and your bridges
threaten engines and you also do that
the same with any other calls really but
you would have to do is you have to look
up what the ohms resistance has to be so
it's a good working one anyway so if you
liked this video please give us a thumbs
up and hit that subscribe button and
don't forget that little bell down the
bottom there so you can see my future
videos and anyway that's all it is
they're from this one and you're next
time cheerio
