probably one of my most frequently asked
questions and that is what is the
training that I need in order to be a
dog walker
there is no regulations in this industry
there is no schooling or certification
that you need to be a dog walker so we
all get to at at different routes that
being said it is really important that
you do get some kind of training and I'm
gonna mention those right now

first things first you want to get pet
First Aid certified now the chances of
something actually happening on your
watch are pretty low but in the off
chance that something does happen you
need to know exactly what it is that you
have to do plus it's a very attractive
quality for potential clients so it may
just make you extra money and get you
more clients too
the second thing and probably the most
important thing that you can do as a
future dog walker is to take dog
behavior courses there is constantly
information being added to our
repertoire about dog cognition and dog
behavior and you need to stay on top of
your game so that you know exactly how
to treat these dogs that you're taking
care of there are a ton of different
courses that you can take there's online
ones there's in-person ones there's
hybrid ones so really just whatever
works for you try to find a course so
that you can understand as much as you
possibly can about the dogs that you're
taking care of to go hand-in-hand with
that there's also dog certification
courses this is if you want to just take
it one step further and get certified as
a dog trainer not only is this good for
understanding the dogs that you're
taking care of but it's also just
another incentive for clients to hire
you because it's extra training and
education that you have the best way to
learn how to be a dog walker is to do
some dog walks that may sound so obvious
but you'd be surprised how many people
go from never walking a dog in their
life to all of a sudden wanting to walk
three or four at the same time you
really need to work up to that and start
small and then work your way to being
able to do three or four so I definitely
suggest volunteering at your local
animal shelter or rescue walking your
friends and family dog just getting to
know as many different breeds ages and
temperaments as you possibly can so that
you're prepared to walk all of your
future clients okay and the last thing
is to read as much as you can as I
mentioned before they are constantly
updating information we are constantly
learning new things about dogs and the
way that they operate in their mind and
with their bodies and you need to stay
up-to-date it's not just something that
as soon as you start your dog walking
business you can stop learning you need
to continue reading as much as you can

really helped me out but you can find so
many different articles and studies
online it's really important that you
stay up-to-date with that like I said
before
there is no kind of certification to be
a dog walker you really find your way
into the industry in whatever way works
best for you which means that all of the
things that I've said won't necessarily
be your route so you've got to kind of
find how you get into the industry and
this is just a good starting point for
