what's going on everybody so today i
wanted to cover a topic that i get asked
about almost every single day and that
is how do you become a certified
arborist christian first we need to
start with what is a certified arborist
so a certified arborist is an individual
who is a professional in the field of
study of trees we work with pruning
treating removing and planting trees
every single day

so how do you even become a certified
arborist and what do we even do every
day so to become a certified arborist
you need either a four-year degree in
arbor culture or forestry followed by
taking the certified arborist exam or
you can substitute the four-year degree
and go to three years in the field like
i did and then go take the certified
arborist exam of course it's not easy so
it all depends on how much time you're
able to devote to studying for this test
about 20 of the information you need can
come through this study guide directly
from isa and the other 80 you're going
to learn from daily tasks and other book
work that you can get from a fellow
arborist
so arborists are really split in between
two categories
service or consulting
if you're in service that means you're
going to be the one that's climbing the
trees or starting off as a brush hauler
picking up brush from the climbers
feeding the chippers and doing that type
of work if you're a consultant then
you're going gonna do what i do and
you're gonna meet with homeowners
businesses and the public and
essentially educate everybody on what
needs to be done with their trees every
day and help preserve the long health of
our urban forestry
i have always had a strong passion for
trees and fortunately after separating
from the navy in 2015 i received an
opportunity to move to san antonio from
florida and obtain my certification in
arbor culture so i'm so blessed to be
able to do something that i love every
day and help people make sure that their
trees thrive and live in many more years
to come this industry needs all the help
it can get in both the service side and

another question that we get asked all
the time is why would i hire an arborist
when i can get my landscaper to do it i
usually put it like this you would never
ask your cardiovascular surgeon to do
brain surgery why not they're both
doctors it's because they're both
professionals in their own industry and
they don't actually correlate arborists
are professionals in the field of trees
where landscapers are in the study of
plants and grass
so please when it comes to trees make
sure you have a trained qualified
individual that is licensed and knows
what they're doing landscapers stay on
