when we're talking about special
situations one thing that's really never
brought up very much and you don't you
may only see this once a season maybe
once every five seasons but do you have
a box in one offense that you're really
comfortable with one of the things I've
noticed through the years and coaching
and going to clinics listening to people
talking to other coaches where the high
school or college level is how
unsatisfied they are with their boxing
one offense so I'm going to show you one
that I like that I think has got good
concepts to it some of it has its roots
in dr. Tom Davis's own offense the guy
that was highly successful attacking
zones we've kind of adopted it to a
boxing one offense so before we put the
box out here let's just take our three
men over here he's the guy that's being
guarded man-to-man okay so he's got he's
got the ball in his hands or he doesn't
have the ball in his hands yet if we can
throw it to him to get the defense
shifted we will but we don't have to
they may face guard him and not let him
catch it so let's say we start the
offense here at the top with our one man
or two men our five and four and we're
going to bring the ball to them to the
foul line extended but stay out high as
that happens we're going to back screen
our best player with one screen and then
a double all right versus the box and
we're trying to get him open off of
basically two screens a single screen
and then a double screen all right
that's how our offense is set up to get
it started okay if we don't have a great
shot on the first side we don't like
this look we don't have to force it
because we're going to figure out a way
to score without involving him as well
we want a box in one offense that
incorporates trying to get our best
player of the ball but also taking
advantage of the fact that we're now
playing the defense four on four so if
we don't have anything here we throw it
back out our four men will break out to
the foul line extended three-point line
okay and I want you to imagine the box
and we'll add the box here shortly as
our four man throws it to the corner
he's going to cut to the mid post but
he's going to go back again and he's
going to arrive at the same time our
five man operates in the low
host but underneath the block underneath
the block yeah so we may have that
baseline rule pass versus the zone think
about the box now somebody's gotta guard
the corner and somebody's got to guard
the low post and they only have two back
there so they're going to have to drop a
guard back on the weak side all right so
as we come into the low post our four
man is coming into the mid post
hopefully in front of the guards that
are out top and we're creating a little
two-on-one versus the back of the box
okay so we like that we like that we
like taking advantage of that all right
we still got our best player there being
guarded man-to-man if we don't have
anything here we just can simply swing
it come get it one all right let's set
the back screen for our good player then
the double screen keep coming all right
trying to get them a shot if we don't
like it we don't have anything we look
we empty out go ahead and swing it we
pop our four men out we swing to the
corner we play two-on-one inside alright
and we continue it
