hello everyone welcome to Virtual
training
so in this demo session we will see
how to take esxi host backup
and how we can restore the esxi host
from the backup
if you are new on my Channel Please
Subscribe my channel
so in this environment
we have one esxi host
and we will log in this esxi host via
Puti so in this environment we have this
XI host 7 and update version is 3. so we
will login this host via putting so
let's login this host
so esxi host has been logged in by a
putty
so the First Command which we will use
to sync the configuration setting and
the next step we will run the command to
take the esxi host backup so First
Command
is Bim hyphen GMT then host SVC forward
slash
from there
then forward slash
sync underscore
config
then hit enter
after that
we need to run the next command to take
esxi host backup so the command is vim
hyphen CMD
host SVC
form where
then forward slash back up underscore
config and then hit enter and it will
generate one URL link
then we need to copy this URL link and
paste in browser
so I am going to paste here
and we need to replace this star option
with either fully qualified domain name
or IP address so in in this environment
the IP details is 192.168.135.176
so we are going to give the same IP
address
192.168 Dot 135.176
and then
hit enter
that we can see the backup has been
downloaded okay
so we need we need to rename this
backup file
with just rename this one
to
we need to rename as a config bundle
Dot pgz
okay
and the size of this backup file is 122
KB after that we need to upload this
backup file in data store so let's go to
the esxi host and then you need to
navigate a storage
and then select data store browser and I
have created One Directory that is
backup select this one and then upload
this backup file
in this location so the backup has been
uploaded successfully
and Let's cross verify from the
from the
SSH okay so let's go to CT vmf face
and then volume and then data store and
then enter and type LS then CD and I
have I have uploaded in backup directory
so CD backup and then hit enter and then
type LS and you can see the file has
been uploaded
okay
the so
the next step is we need to restore the
esxi host from the backup
so what we will do here
we will
so in we have three virtual machine
hosted on this esxi host so
we are any of one VM we will unregister
and then
once we will restore from the backup it
will automatically it will re means
registered from the backup so I'm going
to unregister from this inventory
so you can see
the VM has been unregistered
and once we will restore the esxi post
from the backup it will
re-registered again
okay
so let's see now
we need to
so after that we need to copy this copy
this backup file in temporary directory
so just use CP and then
select
con this Con config bundle dot pgz that
is our esxi host backup and then forward
slash type TMP
and then enter
and then let's verify
CD and then TMP temporary directory and
hit enter and then type LS and we can
see the config bundle the backup file
has been copy in temporary file
temporary directory
okay so before before restore
the esxi host from the backup we need to
keep the esxi host is in maintenance
mode so we will keep this we will keep
we will put this esxi host is in
maintenance mode by using command so
the command is Bim CMD host SBC then in
maintenance I mean the
maintenance
mode
enter
okay and Let's cross verify
so refresh this one
and then you can see the esxi host
is in maintenance mode so you see the
host is in maintenance mode you can also
put this esxi host is in maintenance
mode by
navigating navigate to action and then
here the option now it is showing exit
but when it is it is in note in
maintenance mode it will uh it will
display enter this esxi host is in
maintenance mode okay so this host is
already in maintenance mode so no need
to but this way you can also keep this
hostage in maintenance mode okay now we
will restore the esxi host so the
command is Vin CMD
host SVC
then use
firmware
then
t s store restore
underscore
conf restore underscore config
okay
then we need to select the
we need to select the Backup backup
location so we have copied the backup
location in temporary directory and then
type config and then hit
enter
once you will press tab it will it will
it will face complete path okay
so hit enter
now the esxi host will be reboot
so let's see see so you can see the esxi
host
now it is booting because we are
restoring from the backup okay so once
it will reboot
once the esxi host will be up then we
will check whether that virtual machine
which we have unregistered that is
registered successfully or not okay
so let's wait for
some time so this is esxi host will be
up and then we will check
so you can see now the esxi host is app
no and then we will login this esxi host
and then we will cross verify
okay let's
okay so let me log in this esxi host
okay so I have login this esxi host and
you can see the virtual machine is
registered again it means we have
taken the backup before the unregister
this virtual machine after that we have
restored the esxi host okay after we
have unregistered this virtual machine
so it means our our backup has been
restored successfully because you can
see the virtual machine is in
is in inventory list
so in this demo session we have we have
seen
first we have taken the esxi host backup
and then they have unregistered the
virtual machine
and after that we have restored the esxi
post from the backup and then the
virtual machine is registered
successfully
so I hope you will like this video so
thank you so much have a nice day
