hi my name is Matthew Pearce I'm a
software engineer and today I'm going to
show you how to backup Microsoft Outlook
2007 now if you have an Outlook account
that's running on an exchange server all
your files are already saved back on the
exchange server and if you're worried
about having things backed up most
likely it's backed up there but you
don't then all your stuff is saved on a
dot PST file that's on your local host
so you can back those things up first
thing I want to recommend that you go
straight to the horse's mouth
Microsoft it's got a great web page on
how to do this it is located right here
if you go to this this web URL right
there that takes you to a web page that
has all sorts of different instructions
on different types of backups you can do
but it still is pretty easy to do that
first thing you want to do is you want
to ill you want to go to that URL and
follow the instructions it's it's very
really very helpful and the first thing
that's going to tell you is that you
can't be backing it up if in Microsoft
Outlook is running so you want to shut
down outlook where's my mouse player
there so make sure it's good and shut
down you want to go to the Start menu go
to the control panel and then you bring
up your control panel which all with all
these icons your system control icons
find the mail one double click on that
go to profiles they show profiles and
select the profile that you use with
Microsoft Outlook typically you'll have
one maybe two I've got a bunch because I
tweaked around my system a lot and so
what you do is you you find the profile
you want click on properties right there
and then when you get the properties
then you want to click on the data files
you select personal folders then you
click settings
and then what you do after you click
settings is you click the compact now
Icahn what they are the button what that
will do is it will compact your email
your dot PST file and make a nice
compact one and then you want to pay
attention to where this to what this
file name path is because when it gets
done that is where it's going to leave
your compressed outlook PST file so when
it finishes up compacting if you have a
big mailbox that's going to take a long
time for it to compact let it finish
that go to that directory where that
file is and save your outlook PST file
off in a backup medium however your
backing it up and that is a backup of
your Microsoft Outlook email box that
all the your calendars the contacts and
everything is saved right in there My
