of new ones
hey everybody Dale here and thanks for
watching when you're all done watching
the video if you could click on
subscribe and give me a like that would
be great for this video I'm going to
show you how to save your sticky notes
that you got plastered on your desktop
say like in Windows 7 Windows 8 or
earlier versions of Windows 10 1511
dition or earlier they they did the file
format one way and then after version or
addition 1607 in windows 10 though a
sticky notes file and saved in a
completely different location in a
different way so if you're just now
upgrading from windows 7 or an older
version of Windows 10 or even eight to
the new Windows 10 and you want to save
your sticky notes I'll show you how to
do that so if you have Windows 7 I'm
going to show you where the file is
saved so what you're going to want to do
is go to the disk of my computer on
windows 7 click into your C Drive double
click and you have to make sure on the
view up here at the top that you click
on this little box here for hidden items
cuz we're gonna go into a lot of places
that are hidden so make sure you check
that box and you're gonna go to your
user accounts here this is for Windows 7
obviously I'm running Windows 10 but I
recreated the location so you can see
where it saved him with a 7/8 or version
of Windows 10 so double click on your
user account or whatever use your
account the sticky note are in that you
want to save so in this case it's bail
then we're going to go into the app data
folder here double click that then we're
gonna go into the roaming folder then
we're gonna go down into the Microsoft
folder right here double click that and
you're gonna scroll down you're gonna
find the folder called sticky notes
again this is in Windows 7 8 or older
versions of Windows 10 double click that
you're gonna see a file here called
sticky notes that smt that's the file
that you want so the best thing to do is
just right click on it copy it you can
paste it right on your desktop as I have
here or just throw it on a flash drive
so you don't lose it if you're upgrading
overtop of 7 to Windows 10
probably best to throw it on a flash
drive so that's where it's located in
Windows 7 so let's go back to my
computer here double click it go back
into our C Drive and I'm going to show
you where that sticky note file is now
saved in Windows 10 um 1511 edition or
newer we're gonna go back down into the
user accounts we're gonna go to my de el
account we're gonna go back into AB beta
this time we're gonna go into the local
folder double click that and we're gonna
go down to a folder called packages
right here open that up and you're gonna
scroll and you're gonna look for a
folder called Microsoft that Microsoft
sticky notes all this girly do you're
gonna go into that folder then you're
gonna go into local state double click
that and this is your sticky notes files
and database for the newer versions of
Windows 10 so we want to get all that
out of there the best way to do that
because we're going to restore Windows 7
sticky notes or Windows 8 or over to the
Windows 10 into this newer version of
Windows 10 so best thing to do is just
go into your settings go to start click
on your little gear or however you want
to go to settings go to apps do that
sorry
so go to your list of apps or in
alphabetic order scroll all the way down
till you find sticky notes app that's
right here we're gonna click on that
once we're going to go to Advanced
Options right here and we're going to
scroll down here where it says reset
we're gonna click on reset we're going
to reset the app and it's going it's
just going to reset it
there that's done so now that bowler is
going to be empty so what we're gonna do
now put your flashed right back in or
find your sticky notes that SNT file in
my case that's right here I'm going to
right-click on it I'm gonna copy it to
the clipboard then go back into my
computer or this PC go down to user
accounts go into my day I'll account app
data go into local go down to the
packages folder we're gonna find that
Microsoft Microsoft sticky notes folder
right here double click it go into local
state you can see that it's empty so
what we're gonna do now is we're going
to right-click we're going to create a
folder in here and name it legacy so you
can click up here on new folder just
right click so we're gonna go here we're
going to name this legacy hit enter then
you want to double click into it now
we're going to paste that sticky notes
that SMT file in here paste it in so
there it is now we're going to rename it
we're gonna rename this file they'll
still be that SNP but we're gonna call
it threshold notes that SNT so just
click on rename
just like that hit enter and you can
close that out now we're gonna go and
find our sticky notes up over here I got
it right here so I'm gonna click on it
and hopefully my old sticky notes from
windows 7 will be in there so let's open
it up you don't have to sign in if you
don't want to and here's all my old
sticky notes from Windows 7 Windows 8
and old versions of Windows 10 1511
edition or older so that's how you
restore them from windows 7 the new
Windows 10 now if you want to you know
go back into my computer go into that
location in Windows 10 where the sticky
notes are go to users and go to my day
I'll account I can tap data local
packages Microsoft that Microsoft sticky
notes right here double click local
state you can see here the legacy folder
is still here and the these files right
here that I'm going to select if you
have the newer version of Windows 10 you
just want to backup or save your sticky
notes if you copy these files onto a
flash drive you do a fresh clean install
of Windows or whatever and you want to
restore your sticky notes just save
these files to a flash drive once you
get back into Windows open up sticky
notes for the first time and then close
it all out and then go back in and copy
and paste those files back into the same
location and boom you'll have your
sticky notes back so I hope that was
helpful I appreciate y'all watching and
if you haven't upgraded to Windows 10
yet from Windows 7 you better get going
and have a great night and don't forget
to subscribe
